` ful Improvements in Garment-Supporters, of

which the following isa specification.

` This invention relates to garment and hose supporters; and the object of the invention is to provide an improved attaching device by h which the supporter is attached to the garment.

The invention consists of an attaching device for garment supporters comprising a fiat base-plate having an opening at its rear end for receiving a suitable tape, upwardlyprojecting overh. nging lugs at its front end, forming a converging socket parallel with the length of said base-plate, and a tongue member having a hat tongue at its front end converging in conformity with said socket and having an offset rear portion disposed substantially parallel with the tongue, said rear portion being provided with an opening for receiving a suitable tape, said tongue member being adapted to be inserted in said socket with its tongue parallel on the basethe attaching device and connected parts of the supporter, the tongue of the attaching device being in this gure removed from the socket. Fig. 4 is a similar side view with the tongue of the attaching device in its socket `and the garment indicated in dotted lines;

Referring to the drawings, e indicates the base-plate of my improved attaching device or clasp. At its forward portion said baseplate is provided with two upwardly-projecting overhanging curved grip-lugs or ears. These grip-lugs or ears f f are arranged opposite each other and are rounded over at their interior rear corners f so that the gar- Ament inserted between the same is not torn.

The base-plate is provided atits rear portion with an opening e for permitting the attachment of a strip l) of the garment-supporter.

j indicates a tongue adapted to fit into the socket formed by the upwardly-extending `grip-lugs or ears and is provided at its rear portion with a suitable opening j' for attaching a tape lc of the garment-supporter. The tongue is made of such size as to fit loosely within the socket formed by the upwardly- Vextending lugs or ears f f. The grip-lugs or ears ff are preferably arranged at an angle to each other, and not parallel, so'asto form thereby a socket tapering toward the forward end of the base-plate, and the tongue is also preferably tapered. The overhanging portions of the ears f also converge toward the opposed or back portion of the base-plate, as shown clearly in Figs. 3 and 4, so as to produce the tight wedging of the fabric between the tongue and said parts. The rear portion ,7? of the tongue is preferably arranged at an angle to the forward portion or tongue proper,

so as to extend outward from the base-plate e when the tongue is inserted into the socket, so as to be conveniently grasped by the user when attaching the device to the garment or removing the same therefrom.

W'hen it is desired to attach the garmentsupporter to the garment m, the base-plate is placed at the under side of the garment and the tongue then placed upon the outside of the garment in proper position for entering the socket and is then pushed forward into the same. By this operation the garment is drawn in a fold into the socket, as indicated clearly in Fig. 2. Owing to the curved rear portions f' of the grip -lugs the garment is readily drawn into the socket and enters the same with the tongue without being in any wise torn or injured. The tongue is. pressed in as far as desired and the garment is thereby tightly held between the tongue and baseplate. The continual pull of use only serves to draw the tongue farther into the socket,

thereby tightening the grip of the attaching device upon the garment. For permitting this drawing in the tape or band 7c is preferably made of such length as to remain loose, as indicated in Fig. 4, even when the tongue is inserted to its greatest extent.

It is obvious that my improved attachingv device may be employed in connection with any suitable form of garment supporter. The garment-supporter shown in the drawings is composed of a main supporting-tape a, having a safety-pin c attached to the upper end of the same and two tapes h attached to the lower end, to each of which issecured one of my improved attaching devices.

My improved attaching device is adapted to receive material of widelydiffering char- 'acter and thickness. It holds securely and without injury the thinnest and most delicate fabrics as well as extremely thick and heavy claim as new and desire to secure by Letters' Patent- 1. In a garment-supporter, a clasp formed of a wedge-shaped tongue, and a base-plate adapted to receive said tongue, and having a double taper, substantially as set forth.

2. In a garment-supporter, a clasp formed of a base-plate having upwardlyprojecting overhanging side edges converging toward each other and toward the opposed or back portion ofthe base-plate, and a tongue adapted to be inserted between said converging side edges for wedging a garment between the same and the tongue, substantially as set forth.

3. In a garment-supporter, a clasp consisting of a flat base-plate provided with an opening at its rear end for receiving a suitable tape and upwardlyprojecting overhanging lugs or ears at its front portion, said lugs forming a socket the sides of which converge toward each other and toward the opposed or back portion of the base-plate, and awedgeshaped tongue adapted to be inserted into said socket for securing the garment, said tongue having an offset rear portion `provided with an opening for receiving a suitable tape, substantially as set forth.
