etlicient; and it c'onsistsjin-y the features of r construction and combinations of. partshereinafter fully described and claimed.
The accompanying drawing, illustrating my invention, shows my goose-call in central longitudinal section.
My said device consists of a mouthpiece member A and a call member B, removably secured therein. The said member A consists of a cylindrical sleeve of fanciful form on its outer surface, which is provided at its rear end with a metallic ferrule C, provided with a tongue D, extending toward the mouth end and preferably inlaid in the outer face of said sleeve. Passing through the end portion 0f said tongue D and radially through the wall of the sleeve A is a small internallyscrew-threaded sleeve E, of a soft metal, provided at one end with an external annular flange F and its other end adapted to be overturned to form a flange G, whereby said sleeve E is held firmly in place. Said sleeve E is adapted to receive a set-screw H, having a pivoted thumb-piece I, the function of which will be hereinafter described. The said call member B consists of a slightly-tapered block one end of which is practically cylindrical, asat J, and the other end of which is practically semicylindrical, asateK, said cylindrical portion J being of considerably less length than the semicylindricalportion K and provided withcentral opening L, which is eX- tended into the semicylindrical portion K in the shape of a practically semicylindrical groove M, extending to a point adjacent the end of said block, being gradually enlarged toward said end. Loosely mounted on said portion K of said block and abutting against the portion .I at its larger end is a practically semicylindrical but slightly tapered block N, between which and said portion K of said member B the ends of two reeds O and Pare clamped, said reeds being preferably of different thicknesses of sheet metal, the reed O being bent to extend upwardly at an incline from the inner end of the block N and having its free end bent downwardly, as at Q, whilethel reed P lies dat upon the portion K .pfcseidnembler B sea-eh. as to give -it freedom to vibrate, there being '-averysmall'l spacebetween the end of the reedP vand the upperfface of. said, portion K of the member B to permit passage of the air through said groove M and opening L. In operation the said reeds O and P and the-block N are placed in position on the portion K of the member B and said portion K, with said reeds and block N, inserted into the member'A until said block N is wedged firmly therein, thus firmly clamping the reeds in place and holdin gv said member B firmly in place in said member A. The said reed O now projects into the path 0f said set-screw H, which is brought to bear on same to adjust it to produce variations in its vibration. By now blowing into the mouth end of said member Athe said reeds O and P are vibrated and produce the hoarse discordant tones common to geese, ducks, and other aquatic birds. By adjusting the screw l-I many variations of tones are produced; but these variations are capable of further modification by varying the position of the block N with reference to the ends of said reeds and likewise varying the distance to which said memberY Bprojectsinto Vveasily adjusted, and produces sounds exactly imitating those of aquatic birds in particular.
I claim as my inventionl. A goose-call or the like comprising in combination a mouthpiece member consisting IOO of a sleeve, a radially-adjustable set-screw therein, and a telescopic call member adapted to be inserted into one end of said mouthpiece member, reeds carried by said call member and projecting into the path of said setscrew, and a wedge interposed between said mouthpiece member and said call member to secure the latter removably in place.
2. In a goose-call or the like, the combination with a call member consisting of a tapered block cut away at one end, a groove in said cut-away portion, and reeds mounted over said groove, of a mouthpiece member adapted to receive said call member at one end, and devices carried by said call member and engaged by said mouthpiece member to clamp said reeds in place and hold said call member removably in place in said mouthpiece member.
In a goose-call, the combination with a tubular mouthpiece member, of a tapered call member adapted to project telescopically into said mouthpiece member at one end, a longitudinal groove in said call mem ber, reeds interposed above said groove, and a wedge interposed above said reeds, said wedge beingr adapted to partially enter said mouthpiece member and be engaged by the walls thereof to bear upon and clamp said reeds in place and hold said call member removably in place in said mouthpiece member, substantially as described.

In goose-call, the combination with a tubular mouthpiece member, of a tapered call member adapted to project into said mouthpiece member at one end, a longitudinal groove in said call member, reeds interposed above said groove, and a wedge interposed above said reeds, said wedge being adapted to partially enter said mouthpiece member and be engaged by the walls thereof to bear upon and clamp said reeds in place and hold said call member removably in place in said mouthpiece member, and devices carried by said mouthpiece member and adapted to engage one of the reeds of said call member to vary the position thereof, whereby the tone produced is varied,su bstantially as described.
5. In a goose-call, the combination with a tubular mouthpiece member, and a radial set-screw therein, of a call member comprising a block adapted to entersaid mouthpiece member, a longitudinal groove in said block, reeds projecting over said groove, and devices bearing on said reeds and engaging the walls of said mouthpiece member to clamp said reeds in place and hold said call member removably in place in said mouthpiece member, said reeds being adapted to project into the path of and be engaged by said set-screw to alter the tone produced, substantially as described.
