FREDERICK M. TUROK, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR TO PHILIP HANO, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
ORDER-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 719,393, dated January 27, 1903. Application filed August 26, 1902. Serial No. 121,138. (No model.)
To ctZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, FREDERICK M. TUROK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Manhattan borough, New York city, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Order-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention resides in certain novel fea- 1o tures of construction set forth in the following specification and claims and illustrated in the annexed drawings, in which-- Figure 1 is a plan View of a holder embodying this invention. Fig. 2 is an edge View of [5 Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a section along a; 00, Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a plan view like Fig. l, but partly cut and broken for exposure.
This invention relates to an order or receipt holder having an upper and a lower plate or covers, the lower cover being provided with an overlap or back curve serving as a housing for a spring. Aclamping-plate is pivoted to the overlapped portion of the lower cover, and the upper cover is hinged to the clam ping plate or strip. The lower cover Ct of the holder is provided with an overlapped portion 1), which forms a back and serves as a housing for springs c c, coiled around a stem or rod d. To this cover a is pivoted the clamping or binding plate e, having the hinged jointf, to which is pivoted the upper cover g, so that the upper cover can be opened or closed the same as a book. One end of the coiled spring 0 tends to press the ,5 hinged joint f against the inner portion of the lower plate, so that the blank orders or receipts can be conveniently clamped between the said clamping section or plate e and the lower cover. The lower cover a is practically of rigid or stout material to form a convenient leaf or writing support. The upper cover 9 and strip or clamping section 6 can also be made of like material. Aluminium has been found suitable; but of course the material is a matter of choice. The upper cover being freely hinged or readily opening on its hinge connection f with clampsection e allows ready access to the leaves or sheets between the covers. The spring or rather springs have their forward end parts or portions extended into the line or pintle portion of the upper-cover hinge and may to a certain extent form a pintle for such hinge connection. Such springs thus engaging the forward end of clamping-section 6 hold the latter to the sheets for gripping or securing the latter. These springs coiled or seated about the rod 61 are braced against pins h, secured to the back portion or to the forwardly-extending branches or parts of the rear curve portion. Rivets are practically used to form the pins h. The springs when seated orslipped' onto rod (1 are fastened or secured against slipping out of the back or off the rod. By suitably riveting or heading 65 the lattersay, for example, by the application of screws t-the springs will be held in place.
The sheets, it is noticed, are completely covered or inclosed at top, bottom, and rear portion when the covers are closed, the clamping-plate e, which covers the back portion of the sheets, forming a part or continuation of the top cover g. The parts g, e, and b together constitute a top cover for covering the top of the sheets along their entire length.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A holder of the character described, comprising an inflexible lower cover having a 8d reversely-curved back portion, a rod housed in said curved portion, a clamping-section hinged at one edge to the free edge of the curved portion, an upper cover loosely hinged to the other edge of the clampingsection, and a spring coiled about the said rod and having one end bent to form a bail which serves as a pintle for connecting the clamping-section and upper cover, substantially as described.
2. An order-holder eomprisinga lower cover, an upper cover, a clamping-section, a hinge for connecting the upper cover and clampingsection, and a spring for the clamping-section, said spring having its forward portion extended into the line or pintle portion of the 5 hinge of the upper cover.
3. A holder of the class described, comprisin g a lower inflexible cover having a reverselycurved back portion, pins passing transversely through said cover and its curved back I00 portion, a rod housed in said curved back portion and headed at its opposite ends, springs coiled about the end portions of the rod, a
clamping-section hinged to the curved back portion, and an upper cover hinged to the clam pin g-section,the inner ends of the springs 5 engaging said pins and their outer ends serving as pintles for connecting the clampingsection and upper cover, substantially as described.
4. An order-holder having a bend or back [0 and comprising lower and upper covers, the
upper cover having two hinges, and a spring made to engage the forward hinge and contained in said back.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing I 5 witnesses.
FREDERICK M. TURCK.
