m ll "UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE;
JAMES M. WILSON, OF PRYOROREEK, INDIAN TERRITORY, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO TELLIUS T. MILLER, OF PRYORCREEK, INDIAN TERRL TORY.
DRAWER FOR BINS.
$PECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 717,484, dated December 30, 1902 Application filed March 20, 1902. Serial No. 99,085. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES MARION WIL- SON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pryorcreek, in the Cherokee Nation and Indian Territory,have invented certain new and usefullmprovements in Drawers for Bins and other Articles; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to when tilted back to its normal position may,
be withdrawn by a straight outward pull.
The invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combination and arrangement of parts, which will be herein- I after fully described, defined in the appended claim, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a bin or cabinet embodying the invention, showing one of the drawers closed and the other open. Fig. 2 is a front to rear section showing the drawer closed. Fig. 3 is a similar View showing the drawer open.
Referring to the drawings, the numeral 1 represents a bin, cabinet, or other article of furniture or receptacle which may be of any desired form, design, or construction to suit the purpose and which is provided with one or more recesses or chambers 2 to receive a corresponding number of drawers 3.
Each drawer 3 comprisesa front wall 4, having a downwardly and rearwardly inclined base portion 5, straight side walls 6, a rear wall 7, having a forwardly-curved extension 8, which extends some distance in advance of the rear ends of the side walls, and a bottom 9, which extends between the lower edges of the part 5 and rear wall 7. The front wall t is provided with a suitable knob or handle 10. When the drawer is closed,the side and rear walls thereof fit snugly against the corresponding walls of the chamber 2 and the extended side edges of the front wall 4 bear against the front wall of the bin or cabinet, thereby preventing access of dust and dirt to the interior of the drawer and at the same time obviating the undue wear and tear on the drawer liable to occur when the drawerfits loosely and is frequently opened and closed. In this position of the drawer the curved wall 8 lies below the plane of the lintel or upper front cross-bar 11 at the entrance to the chamber 2, and the drawer may be removed for cleaning or repairs by drawing it straight out from said chamber 2.
When it is desired to open the drawer to get access to the contents thereof, the handle 10 is grasped and pulled down upon, thereby causing the drawer to tilt forward and downward on the edge 12 as a fulcrum and to rest upon the inclined base portion 5 of the front wall, in which position its interior is exposed for removal of the contents. The wall 8 is by the same motion of the drawer brought to bear against the lintel 11, whereby displacement of the drawer is prevented.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, it is believed that the construction, operation, and advantages of my invention will be readily apparent without requiring a more extended explanation.
Various changes in the form, proportion, and the minor details of construction maybe resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination with a bin, chest, cabinet or other article havinga chamber provided with an entrance-way having a depending upper front lintel or crossbar; of a tilting drawer arranged within said chamber and 10 the drawer and forminga stop to engage the I lintel when the drawer is tilted, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
J. M. WILSON.
