STORM-WINDOW.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 341,112, dated May 4, 1886. Application Icd February 10.1886. Serial No. 191,436. (No model.)

Be it known that I, Gnnisrorn F. TEUEEL, a citizen ofthe United States, residing at lVoolstock, in the county of Vright and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stoini-\Viiitlo\vs; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and enact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures ot' reference marked thereon.

Figure 1 of the drawings is a perspective view of my invention, and Fig. 2 a vertical section thereof.

The present invention has for its object to provide a storni-window, to be attached to the frame of an ordinary window to keep out the cold air and snow, and also prevent frost upon the window-panes; and it consists in the details of construction, substantially as shown in the drawings, and hereinafter described and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings, A represents the window-frame, and B O the upper and lower sash, respectively.

To the upper end of the frame A, and upon the outer side thereof, is suitably attached an overhanging rectangular shield, I), extending the entire width of the frame.

Thest-orin-window E, at its upper end, is detachably connected to the shield D by pins a, engaging with perforations in the shield, as shown. The sides of the storm-window are connected in place by means of the fastening devices consisting ofthe pivoted buttons b and plates c, the former being attached to the windowiraine and the latter devices to the stormwindow, pivoted buttons d also being secured to the lower part of the window frame or sill to hold the lower end of the storm-window in position. A felt packing, e, is secured to the four edges of the window D to keep out the cold air and snow, the overhanging shield E preventing any lodgment of snow on the top ofthe storm-window, and also providing means for attaching the same to the frame, the shield also keeping ofi` the rain from the top of the Window.

In the spring, or when the storm-\vindow is not required for use, it may be removed and laid away.

Any suitable and weltknown means may be employed for detaehably connecting the stormwindow to the window-frame of the house, and it is evident that my improvement is equally applicable to the doors ofhouses as to the windows.

Having now fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire toseeure by Letters Patent, is-

1. The combination, with an overhanging rectangular shield connected to the top of a window-frame, of a storm-window detachably connected thereto and to the window-frame, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.

2. The combination, with a window-frame and sashes and an overhanging shield, of a storm-window having pins in its top to engage with perforations thereimand suitable fastening devices for holding the sides and bottom of the window in place, as set forth.
