NON-REFILLABLE BOTTLE.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 704,605, dated July 15, 1902.

Be it known that I, THOMAS P. WEIBLE, a citizen of the United States, residing at C0- lumbus, in the county of Franklin and State of Ohio, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Non-Refillable Bottles, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to the improvement of non-refillable bottles and the objects of my invention are to provide a simple, reliable, and effective attachment for bottles whereby the same cannot be refilled or their contents adulterated by the introduction of Water or other liquids, to so construct my improved attachment as to facilitate the connection of the same with the bottle and at the same time provide a cork-receiving cap, and to produce other improvements the details of construction and arrangement of parts of which will be more fullypointed out hereinafter. These objects I accomplish in the manner illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure l is a view, partially in elevation and partially in section, of a bottle having myimprovement; and Fig. 2 is an under side view of the bottle-neck cap, which I employ in the manner hereinafter described.

Similar numerals refer to similar parts throughout both views.

1 represents asuitably-shaped bottle-body, and 2 the neck thereof,said neck being formed at its upper end with an external bead or flange 3. Within the bottle mouth and neck I provide'a close-fitting internal casing 4-, the lower end portion of which tapers to a central opening 5. The upper end of the casing et is flanged outwardly, as indicated at 6, this flange being adapted, as shown, to bear upon the upper or outer end of the bottle-neck. WVithin the casing a I provide a valve-ball 7, which when the bottle is in an upright or substantially upright position is adapted to close the opening 5.

8 represents a bottle-neck cap, the latter being formed with a central depending cup-like or socket portion Sflwhich fits,as shown,within the mouth of the casing 4. On the outer side of the cup or socket portion 8 the cap 8 is shaped to form a depending channel portion 8", the upper portion of the latter bearing upon the flange 6 of the casing 4., while the outer wall of said channel portion extends downward about the shoulder or flange 3 of the bottleneck and has its edge portion bent or clamped under said shoulder or flange. The bottom of the cup-socket portion 8" is provided with suitable openings, such as are indicated at 10, but which are not of sufficient size to permit of the passage of the ball 7 therethrough. It will be seen that the clamping of the cap about the shoulder or flanged end of the bottle-neck will serve to hold the easing 4. firmly within the bottle and against removal therefrom, while the socket or cup formed by the portion 8 of the cap is adapted to receive a suitable removable cork or bottle-stopper.

It is obvious that when the bottle is tipped for pouring liquid therefrom the ball 7 will leave the opening 5 and permit the liquid to flow through the casing 4. and cap-openings 10; but when said bottle is in an upright or approximately upright position the ball 7 will find a seat in the opening 5 and prevent the introduction of liquid into the body of the bottle.

I am aware that ball-valves have been used heretofore for the purpose of closinga valveopening in an internal casing in bottle-necks, and therefore do not claim the employment of said ball broadly.

Having now fully described myinvention, whatI claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

In a non-refillable bottle, the combination with the bottle-body having its neck portion provided with a peripheral flange 3 at its outer end and a casing 4; depending within said bottle-neck, said casing having its outer end flanged to bear upon said shoulder portion 3 and having its inner end Within the bottle-neck provided with a central opening, of a cap comprising a central cup-like portion extending within the mouth of the bottle-neck and an outwardly and downwardly extending portion embracing and clamped beneath said bottleneck shoulder, said cup portion having openings therein and a ball Within said bottle-neck adaptedto close the inner end opening of the casing, substantially as specified.
