OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
INITIAL FINGER-RING.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 700,637, dated May 20, 1902.
Application filed March 15, 1902. Serial No. 981364. (No model.)
To all whom, it nuty concern:
Be it known that I, FREDERICK G. FREY, Jr., a citizen of the United States, residing in the city of St. Louis, in the State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Initial Finger-Rings, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
My invention relates to a finger-ring in which initials may be removably and interchangeably applied; and the invention consists in features of novelty hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claims.
Figure I is a perspective view of a ring constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. II is an enlarged cross-sectional View of the head of the ring with the initial to be applied thereto shown in position for insertion into the head. Fig. III is a similar View to Fig. II, showing the initial seated in the head of the ring. Fig. IV is a cross-sectional View showing the inside of the head of the ring. Fig. V is an enlarged detail perspective View of an initial and the hinged retaining-arms carried thereby.
l designates the ring having ahead 2, provided with an initial-receiving cavity 3. In the head of the ring are two apertures 4:, that are separated by a central web 5.
6 designates the initial, which is adapted to seat in the cavity orlcountersunk portion of the ring-head. On the under side of the initial are ears 7, that receive the pivotal connection of hinged arms S and ll. The hinged arm 8 is of a reduced thickness from a shoulder 9 on its inside face to its free end and carries a stud 10, that projects from the inside face thereof. The arm Il is of reduced thickness from a shoulder 12 on its outside face to its free end and is provided with an orifice 13, that is adapted to receive the stud l() on the arm 8. When the two arms are folded together, as seen in Figs. III and IV, so that the said arms are interlocked with each other in the under side of the head of the ring, they serve to retain the initial to which they are attached when the ring is worn upon the finger.
The head of thering is preferably undercut, as seen in Figs. II and III, in order that the hinged orv retaining arms will lie flush with the inside face of the ring-head when in interlocked position.
I claim as my inventionl. The combination with a finger-ring provided with apertures, of an initial and hinged arms carried by said initial adapted for introduction through said apertures to interlock with each other beneath the head of the ring, substantially as described.
2. The combination with a finger-ring, provided with apertures, of an initial, arms hinged to said initial adapted for introduction through said apertures, one of said arms being provided with an orifice and a stud carried by the other arm adapted to enter said orifice to hold saidarms in interlocked position when folded together Within the ring, substantially as described.
3. The combination with a finger-ring having a countersunk and undercut head provided With apertures, of an initial, and hinged arms carried by said initials, one of said arms being provided with an orifice and a stud carried by the other of said arms adapted for introduction into said oriice when the arms are in folded condition Within the head of the ring, substantially as described.
FREDERICK G. FREY,-JR. In presence of- E. S. KNIGHT, M. P. SMITH.
