To all whom it may concern:

Be it known thatI, OSCAR WARLICH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garment-Supporters, of which the followingis a specification.

My invention relates particularly to an improved form of clasp for garment-supporters. Its main objects are to provide improved means for operating the jaws of the clasp and to admit of manufacturing the same at a low cost. I accomplish these objects by the device shown in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure l is a side elevation of a suspenderstrap having one of my clasps secured thereto out of operative position. Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the Suspender-strap and clasp. Fig. 3 is a side elevation showing the clasp in engagement with the garment. Fig. 4 is a section along the line so a; of the upper part of the member 6. Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the member 6.

A metallic ring 5 is firmly secured to the strap 1. The clasp-jaws are vertically movable along the strap and consist of members 6 and 7, pivotallyconnected at 8. The members 6 and 7 are bent inwardly at 14 and 15 for engaging the garment. The member 6 has the inward projection 9, bent toward the strap 1. Said projection 9 is provided with a notch 10 and a hook-shaped prolongation 11, forming the extreme upper side of the said notch. The projection 9 slides between the divided strap at 12, said strap being parted its entire length downward till it reaches the ring 5. The wedge-shaped projection 9, in conjunction with the ring 5, serves to limit the motion of the ring 5 along the projection 9. The notch 10 is adapted to receive the ring 5 and hold the jaws in their closed position. The member 7 is preferably made in the form of a sleeve surrounding the strap 1 and has at each side a projecting flange 8, said flanges each having a hole13. The holes 13 receive the projections 16 of the member 6, and thus form a pivotal connection between the members 6 and 7.

The operation of my device is as follows: When not in use, the jaws will be free from the metallic ring 5, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2. To secure the jaws to the garment, the operator will place same in proper position over the edge of the garment and will then pull the strap 1 upwardly, so as to bring the notch 10 into the position shown in Fig. 3, in

which said notch 10 rests on the metallic ring 5, and thus the jaws are forced together. It will be understood that when the wedge 9 of the member 6 is free from the metallic ring 5 the latter will have no action on said jaws, but that when the strap 1 is pulled upwardly the ring 5 will move along the projection 9 and snap into the notch 10, and thus force the jaws together, holding them in closed position, thus supporting the garment. To remove the jaws from the garment, the operator will hold the jaws with one hand and with the other hand will pull the strap 1 at its lower end downwardly, so as to release the ring 5 from the notch 10.

It will be understood that the minor details of the device shown may be altered in numerous ways without departing from the spirit of my invention. I therefore do not confine my self to such details except as hereinafter limited in the claims.

What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. In a garment-supporter, the combination of a cord or strap; a member secured to said strap to form a shoulder on same; a sleeve slidingly mounted on said strap and having on one side a jaw; a shank pivoted to said sleeve, having thereon a jaw adapted to coact with the jaw on the sleeve; said strap being extended above and below the sleeve and shank, and both jaws being located on the same side of the strap, and a wedge-shaped projection-on said shank adapted to engage said member and force said jaws toward each other.

2. In a garment-supporter, the combination of a cord or strap; a member secured to said strap to form a shoulder on same; a sleeve slidingly mounted on said strap and having on one side a jaw; a shank pivoted to said sleeve, having thereon a jaw adapted to'coact with the jaw on the sleeve; said strap being extended above and below the sleeve and shank, and both jaws being located on the same side of the strap, said shank being adapted to engage the member on said strap and force said jaws toward each other.

3. In agarment-supporter, the combination of a cord or strap; a member secured to said strap to form a shoulder on same; a sleeve slidingly mounted on said strap and having 011 one side a jaw; a shank pivoted to said sleeve, having thereon a jaw adapted to coact with the jaw on the sleeve; and awedgeshaped projection on said shank adapted to engage said member and force said jaws toward each other, said wedge having a notch therein to engage said member and limit its movement relatively to said shank.

4. In agarment-supporter, the combination of a cord or strap; a member secured to said strap to form a shoulder on same; a sleeve slidingly mounted on said strap and having on one side a jaw; a shank pivoted to said sleeve, having thereon a jaw adapted to coact with the jaw on the sleeve; said strap being extended above and below the sleeve and shank, and both jaws being located on the same side of the strap, a wedge-shaped projection on said shank adapted to engage said member and force said jaws toward each other; and means for limiting the movement of said sleeve along said strap.
