To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, JAMES G. THOMPSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cheyenne, in the county of Laramie and State of Wyoming, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sash-Fasteners; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and usethe same, reference being had to theaccompanying drawings, and to the figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

My invention relates to improvementsin sash-fasteners for windows, the object of the same being to provide means whereby a window-sash may be held at any desired point without the use of cords, pulleys, and bal ance-weights. p

The invention consists of a window-sash having a hole passing transversely through one of its sides with a recess at its outer end, a bolt fitting said hole having a lug or shoulder thereon which engages the inner surface of a securing-plate, and a frictional block socured to the end of the bolt within the recess and adapted to contact with the inner edge of the window-frame.

The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 represents a front elevation of a window-sash in which myin vention is embodied. Fig. 2 is a sectional view through one of the side bars of the sash with my improvements thereon. Fig.3 is a detail perspective view of the clamping-block.

The window-sash 1 is mounted to slide in the window-frame 2 and is formed with a hole 3, passing transversely through one of the side bars thereof, which hole joins a recess or slot at the outer edgeof the sash, as shown at 4:. to the sash. The plate serves to prevent longitudinal movement of the bolt in the sash. The outer threaded end of the bolt 5 engages the threaded portion of a yoke 9, whose ends are pivotallyw secured to and within flanges 10, projecting from a frictional clampingplate 10, so that said' plate may swing in a vertical plane.

In using my device when it is desired to adjust the window-sash 1 at any desired point the same is raised or lowered to the elevation desired and the knob 6 on the bolt 5 turned so as to unscrew the outer end of said bolt from the threads in the loop 9, thereby forcing the frictional clamping-plate 10 out into contact with the inner edge .of the windowframe 2. The combination with a window frame, of a window-sash moving therein, having a hole passing transversely through one of its side bars-,'the said sash being recessed on its outer edge at'the end of said hole, a bolt passing through said hole, having a threaded outer end and a knob upon its inner end, a shoulder on said bolt, a plate surrounding said bolt between said shoulder and said knob and secured to the'inner surfaceof thewindowsash, a swinging clamping-plate fitting the recess in the outer edge of said sash and a yoke pivoted to said clamping-plate, provided with a threaded perforation which is engaged by the outer end of said bolt, substantially as I and for the purpose described.
