CHARLES J. SOHUMACHER, OF ALLEGHENY, PENNSYLVANIA.
KEY-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming-part of Letters Patent No. 692,167, dated January 28, 1902.
Application filed April 1, 1901- Serial No. 53,808. (No model.)
use of which the unwieldy bunch or tendency to bunch on the part of the keys when secured on a separable ring is avoided.
A further object of my invention is to produce a means of identifying or advertising the owner of the keys; and to these purposes my invention consists in the novel construction hereinafter set forth and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a detail view.
of the complete key-holder; Fig. 2, a View illustrating how a key is placed on the keyholder; Fig. 3, a View showing the key on the key-holder; and Fig. 4, a view of a modification, illustrating a key in position thereon.
In the accompanying drawings like reference characters indicate like parts wherever they occur throughout the several views thereof.
Referring to said drawings,1 1 are separable rings, the separable ends of which are connected by chains, links 2, or other suitable means. 3 is a key or keys adapted to be secured upon said chains between the rings in such manner that the two rings may be brought together, their adjacent faces lying one upon the other, obviating the tendency on the part of the keys to bunch, as is usual when the usual separable ring is used alone.
In applying the keys upon my improved keyholder the eye of the key is pressed against one of the chains inwardly over the separable end of the ring to which it is connected, and the key and chain are carried around the ring,
as shown in the drawings, until finally the key is inserted on both chains between the rings, being secured thereon in such wise that there is no danger of its falling ofi.
In the use of my invention I preferably employ one ring and a disk 4, the face of the disk having the owners name and address stamped thereon or any other inscription tending to advertise or identify the owner.
In Fig. 4. I show a modified form of my device in which two rings and a disk are shown. In the use of this form of device two of the rings- 6. 6., the two end rings-are laid upon each other and the key inserted upon the same, similar-to the manner when one ring alone is employed. It is obvious that in the use of this form of device one of the rings may be a disk whereon advertising or identification matter may be inscribed.
In order to remove the'key or keys, the inner edge of the eye of the key is pressed inwardly against one of the chains and the said chain and the eye of the key carried over the end of the ring to which the other chain is attached and the key carried around to the opposite end of the ring, when it willbe found that the key is released.
Having described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent,
1. In a key-holder, the combination of two objects or members and two independent flexible connections between said members, said members being otherwise disengaged and one of them being adapted for the passing of the eye of the key thereover by manipulation.
2. In a key-holder, the combination with a member, ofv an open ring, and independent flexible connections between the tips of the open ring and the member.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto affixed my signature in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
CHARLES J. SOHUMAGHER.
