CHARLES ERNEST CLARKE, OF SAGINAl/V, MICHIGAN, ASSIGNOR OE ONE-HALE TO GEORGE A. REYNOLDS, OF SAME PLACE.
PUZZLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 487,318, dated December 6, 1892'.
Application filed April 8, 1892- Serial No. 428,301. (No model.)
To aZZ whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, CHARLES ERNEST CLARKE,a citizen of the United States, residingat Saginaw, in the county of Saginaw and State of Michigan, have invented a certain new and useful Puzzle; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification. I
My invention is a puzzle, and may be used as a game or in advertising, 8w.
[5 Figure 1 is a view of the puzzle with letters mixed. Fig. 2 is a view of the puzzle solved and the letters on the block spelling out The Columbian Worlds Fair, Chicago, 1893.
Mypuzzle is inclosed in a square or rectanzo gular box and is composed of twenty-three blocks, twenty-two of which are triangularin form, forming, when two of them are placed together tightly, a square. One block is a square. Upon the top face of these blocks a letter or figure is made, as desired, each block in the puzzle containing a letter of the required sentence, or a figure of the required number, or it may be a partof the picture. The letters are mixed up, the square block re- 0 moved from the box, and the sentence again formed by sliding the letters around until they spell the words of the sentence. It will be observed that these triangularblocks move diagonally as well as at right angles; but in moving diagonally all move in the same diagonal and in one direction only, and that direction the line of the hypotenuse of the triangle. Herein is my invention, all other block puzzles moving in straight line or right angles only.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination, with a square or rectangular box, of movable blocks within the box of uniform triangular form, two of which will form a square, said blocks being movable diagonally in line with the long side of each block, as well as at right angles, and adapted to be arranged in different orders, and one square block to be removed when the triangular blocks are moved, substantially as and for the purpose set forth. I
In testimony whereof la'ffix mysignature in presence of two Witnesses.
