DETACHABLE SPOUT FOR POWDER-CANS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N o. 690,571, dated January 7, 1 902.

To all whom t may concern:
Beit known that I, LEANDER J. GROVE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Astoria, in the county of Fulton and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Detachable Spout for Powder-Gans, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is an improved vdetachable spout for powder-cans and the like by means of which the contents of the cans may be readily poured therefrom and which spout after a can has been em-ptied is adapted to be detached therefrom and attached to another can; and it consists in thepeculiar construction and combination of devices hereinafter fully set forth and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view of a spout embodying my improvements, showing the same attached to a powder-can. Fig. 2 is a detail perspective view of my improved detachable spout.
The spout 1 is preferably of cylindrical form, and the lower end thereof is beveled, as at 2, to form a point 3, which may be readily driven through the top of a can at one side thereof, as shown in Fig. l. On one side of the spout is a flange 4, which bears on the top of the can and limits the descent of the spout when the same is being driven through the top of the can. On the outer side of the spout is a depending arm 5, the lower portion of which is disposed opposite and in proximity to one side of the can, and the said arm 5 is provided with a set-screw 6, which is adapted to secure the same to the can, as shown in Fig. l. At the upper end of the spout is a detachable cap 7, which may be either of the form here shown or of any other suitable form.
My improved spout is thus adapted to be readily attached to a can and is exceedingly useful in pouring the powder or other contents of the can therefrom. When the can has been emptied, the spout maybe readily detached therefromA and preserved for use in connection with another can. My improved detachable spout is particularly useful in con'- nection with powdercans to facilitate the pouring of the powder therefrom into the cartridges used for mining and other purposes; butI do not limit myself to the use of my improved detachable spout in connection with powder-cans, as the same may be used also in connection with other vessels.
Having thus described my invention, I claimp l. A detachable spout of the class described having its lower end adapted to be driven into the head of a can and to bear against the inner side of the can, said'spout having a downwardly-extending arm to lie on the outer side of the can, opposite the lower, bearing portion of the spout, and means, carried by said arm, to engage the can and clamp one side of the same between said lower portion of the spout and said arm, substantially as described.
2. A detachable spout of the class described having its lower end adapted to be driven into the head of the can and to bear against the inner side of the can, said spout having a bearing-ange to bear against the top of the can, and a downwardly-extending arm to lie on the outer side of the can, opposite the lower, bearing portion of the spout,
and means, carried by said arm, to engage the can and clamp one side of the same between said lower portion of the spout and said arm, substantially as described.
3. A detachable spout of the class described, having its lower end adapted to be driven into the head of a can and to bear against the inner side thereof, and clamping means opposite the said lower, bearing portion of the spout, to engage the outer side of the can and clamp the bearing portion of the spout thereto, substantially as described.
