Description

Patented Dec. 3, l90l. Y J. F. PARKER. COLLAPSIBLE EGG 0R 'FRUIT CASE.
(Application filed Mar. 6, 1901.)
(No Model.)
UNITED STATES PATEI JAMES F. PARKER, OF PITTSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE- HALF TO JOHN A. SUTOH, OF PITTSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA.
COLLAPSIBLE EGG OR FRUIT CASE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N o. 687,940, dated December 3, 1901. Application filed March 6, 1901. Serial No. 50,068. (No model.)
T0 to whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES F. PARKER, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Collapsible Egg or Fruit Cases; and I'do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to an improved col- In describing the invention in detail reference is had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, wherein like numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved box or case, showing the same in a built-up condition. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of the same. Fig. 3 is a transverse vertical sectional view taken on the line 3 3 of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is an enlarged perspective view of the partition. Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the upper portion of one of the ends. Fig. 6 is a view showing the box or case when in a folded position. I
In the drawings the reference-numeral 1 in dicates the front portion of the case or box, having a hinged connection at 2, which is secured to the rectangular bottom 3. The rear portion of the box or case is indicated by the reference-numeral 4 and is likewise hinged, as at 5, to the bottom of the box. The side pieces are indicated by the reference-n umerals b 6 and are also hinged, as shown at 7, to the bottom, the upper ends of the side pieces being bent upon one another, as shown at 8, and having secured therein wires 9, carrying at their free ends eyes 10. Said sides are also inwardly flanged, as shown at 11 11.
The reference-numeral 12 indicates the inner partition, which is re movable, havinglikewise secured at the upper end thereof a wire or rod 13,.said wire or rod having secured at its ends rods 14, said rods having their free ends bent downwardly, as shown at 15, forming hooks to be secured in the eyes 10 of the sides.
The reference-numeral 16 indicates the top of the box, said lid carrying a hasp 17, which is secured in position upon a staple 18, rigidly secured to the front face of the box. The said lid is provided on its rearward side with apertures 19, engaging the hooks 2i), rigidly secured to the rearward side of the box and forming ahinged connection therewith. Supplemental hooks 21 are secured to the lower end and serve as fastening means for the lid when the box is in a knocked-down position.
It is thought that the many advantages obtained by the use of my improved device will be readily understood from the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, and it will be noted that various changes may be made in the details of construction without departing from the general spirit of the invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a folding box, the combination of hinged sides and ends, the upper portion of said ends bent upon themselves, wires secured in said bent-over portion, eyes carried by said Wires, a partition carrying rods, hooks arranged upon the ends of said rods adapted to engage said eyes, and a lid, all parts being arranged and operating substantially as described.
2. In combination, in a folding box, the bottom, the hinged sides and ends, said ends having flanges 11, the upper edge of each end rolled, a rod carried in each roll an eye formed at each end of said rod and intermediate said flanges, the removable partition having rods with hooked ends designed to engage said eyes, as set forth.
8. In combination with the bott0m,the sides and ends hinged thereto, the upper ends of the hinged end boards turned into rolls, a rod mounted in each roll and having an eye formed in each end thereof, the opposite upright edges of the end pieces being bent to form flanges 11, the removable partition having a roll at its upper edge, a rod 13 mounted therein, two parallel rods one being secured at each end of said rod 13 and provided with books IO engaging said eyes, as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto affixed my signature in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
JAMES F. PARKER.
