Nisn STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HARRY J. MELLON, OF PITTSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA. I
COMBINED PEN AND PENCIL HOLDER AND CALENDAR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters IPatent No. 683,964, dated October 8, 1901.
Application filed May 13, 1901. Serim No. 60,022. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern;
Be it known that I, HARRY J. MELLON, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Pittsburg,in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Combined Pen and Pencil Holder and Calendar; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in calendar'penholders, and has for its object to provide a pen and pencil holder with the proper calendar.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a plan View showing a penholder with my attachments in position thereon. Fig. 2 is a detail plan view of a pencil removed from the holder. Fig. 3 is a detail plan view and end view, respectively, of the holder. Fig. 4 is a detail side elevation and end view, respectively, of a part of the attachment. Figs. 5, 6, 7, and 8 are like views of other parts of the attachment. 7
To put my invention into practice, I provide a holder 1, which may be of tubular or any other desired form, and I arrange spirally upon this holder atape 2, having printed thereon the days of the month from one to thirty-one. Fitted upon this holder 1 is a sleeve 3, rotatable thereon and provided with apertures 4, 5, and 6. The first aperture is to display therethrough the day of the week, the second to display therethrough the name of the month, and the last to display therethrough the day of the month. The months of the year are displayed circumferentially of the sleeve 7, while the tip or nozzle 8 is mounted on the holder to display the year. The tip or nozzle 8 and the sleeve 7 are held against rotation when the holder is rotated by suitable fastening means, but may be 1'0- tated independently when desired.
It will be apparent that the attachment hereinbefore described may be applied to fountain-pens as Well as to the form of pen or pencil shown herein.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- A calendar attachment for cylindrical bodies, comprising .a spirally-arrangedtape adapted to be wound about the circumference of a cylindrical body, a sleeve 3 having one end threaded, and a sight-aperture therein, and adapted to disclose a pumeral on said tape, a second sleeve 7 rotatable upon said sleeve 3, and having the abbreviations of the names of the months of a year thereon, ribs 7 on the sleeve 7, the sleeve 4 provided with ribs 4" and sight-apertures, and mounted about sleeve 7, flexible fingers 5 on the circumference of sleeve 4 a band 4 with interior ribs which are engaged by said fingers, and a sleeve 8 fitted over sleeve 7 and having spring-arms designed to engage said ribs 4, as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto affixed my signature in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
HARRY J. MELLON.
