POCKET-PARTITION FOR BOXES.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 683,761, dated October 1, 1901.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, LEO HIRSCHFELD, a citi zen of the United States, and aresident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Pocket-Partition for Boxes, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

The purpose of the invention is to provide a pocket-partition for boxes intended to contain chocolate drops or similar confectionery, and to construct the partition in a number of sections having guides upon which they slide, each section being independent of the other andhaving independent movement, so that the sections may be so arranged that when in given positions with respect to each other the sections will form a series of pockets, each adapted to contain a piece of confectionery, whereby each individual piece is separately contained in a pocket and one piece is prevented from having engagement with another.

The invention consists in the novel construction and combination of the several parts, as will be hereinafter fully set forth, and pointed out in the claims.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming apart of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indi cate corresponding parts in all the figures.

Figure 1'is a plan View of a box in which an upper tray is exposed having the improved partition applied. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical section through the box, taken practically on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a transverse section through the box and trays, taken substantially on the line 3 3 of Fig. 2; and Fig. at is a detail perspective view of a portion of a partition removed from the box or tray.

In operation the base-sections are placed one upon the other and the guides 13 are passed through the openings 12 in the vertical .members of the base-sections; but one end section (designated as c and shown particularly in Fig. 2) is placed upon the guides 13 in a position the reverse of the other sections, so that the vertical member 10 of this particular end section 0 may be carried to an engagement with the inner face of an end of the box or tray. The other sections, which may be collectively located at the center of the box or tray, are then slid one from oft the other until their horizontal members 11 slightly overlap, as shown in Fig. 2, thus forminga series of pockets 14, each pocket complete in itself and adapted to hold an articleas, for example, a chocolate drop or other piece of candy-so that the various pieces in the tray or box will not rub one against the other, and the design or ornamentation on each piece maybe accurately preserved in transportation, even when the package is roughly handled.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1.
