F. BADE. WATER SUPPLYI NG DEVICE FOR POULTRY.

Z W/T/VESSES INVENTOH v r- GaMJ By M I STATESPATENT FERDINAND BAD'E', orjuonwoon, NEW-JERS wA'rsR-su-PPLYme DEVICE EQR POULTRY.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 682,779, dated September 17,- 190-1, Application filed December 19 1900- Serial No.40,339 Ql'omodel.) v r To aZZ whom it 72mg; concern,-
Be it known that I, FERDINAND BADE, a
' subject of theEr'nperor'of Germany, residing at Norwood, in the county of Bergen and State,
of New Jersey, have'invented certain new and useful Improvements in ater-Suppl ing Devices for Poultry, of which the followmg is a fulland complete specification, such as will enable those-skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
' Tlhis-inventin relates to water-supply devices for use in connection with poultry yards or houses; aud the object thereof is to provide an improved device of this class by means of which a predetermined amount of water may be automatically supplied at all times for use by poultry, a further' objectbeing to provide a water-supply device for poultryhaving apan or other receptacle into which water is automaticall'y fed under pre-' determined conditions and in which a oertain' amount of water is always kept; and
with these and other objects in view the invention consists in an apparatus for the purpose specified constructed as hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention is fully disclosed in the fol lowing specification, of which the accompanying'drawings form a part, in which the sep- In the drawings forming part of this speci fication I have shown at a a water-tank and which maybe of any desired form or'construction, which may consist of an ordinary 4 barrel, if desired, and in-the practice of my invention I providea faucet b, which is provided withv a longitudinal-bomb and at its outer end with a depending member 12 through which the bore 1) is also extended.
I also form on the upper side of the faucet midwaythereo'fror nearer the outer than the inner end a support h or said support may I be formed separately and securedto. the
I faucet,,an'd in the top of thissupport I pivot .a lever c,-which extendslongitudinally of the" faucet and which is provided at its outer end with a pivoted link or memberc from the lower end of which is suspended a pan'or other receptacle 0". 1
Secured to the top of the faucet near the support I) and projecting in thedirection'of thetank a is a spring (I, with which is connected a screw (1 which passes up through the end of the lever 0' and is provided with. a thumb-nut e.
I also preferably formon thetop of the faucet'betwe'en-the outer end th'ereof and the support 11 a sleeve'g', through" which passesa plunger'h,.and said plunger is 'pivotally connected at k with the lever c,
and the plunger his designed to close. and
open the bore or passage 12 in the faucet-b, as hereinafter described. I also preterably place in the inner endof the faucet b a plug k, with which is connected a rubber tube 16 and said tube extendsthe full length offlthe .bore 12 of the'faucet, and substantially fills the same, and in practice the water from the tank a passes through the plug it and the rubber tubek and the plunger h bearing on said tube. i I v i The operation will ,be readilyunderstood 'from thelforegoing description when taken 1 in connection with the accompanying drawings and thefollowing statement thereof. The parts are so adjusted that a slight amount of water will always be'in the pan or receptaclec without operating the lever c, andthe nut 12' may be adjusted to accomplish this result. It will be understood that the Water normally" passes from the tank a, through the faucet 1), into the pan or recep tacle c and when a certain am'ountof water is discharged into said pan or receptacle the outer end of the lever cwill be depressed and the. plunger will closethe tube 711 and .cut on? the fiow of water, and as soon as the water has been removed from thepanor receptacle to within a predetermined limit the said pan .or'
receptacle will be again raised by thespring a and the water will flow through the tub k The operation of the apparatus is thus automatic, and it will be apparent that the tube k is notan absolutely essentiai feature, as
the plunger It would operate to accomplish the same result if this tube were not employed.
I prefer, however, to use the flexible tube k as it facilitates the regulation of the operation of the apparatus, and it will beapparent that theplug k may be removed and a' new tube connected therewith whenever desired. It will also be apparent that this device or apparatus may be used in a poultry-house or in a poultry-yard or Wherever desired for the purpose specified, and changes in and modifications of the construction described other than those herein specified may be made said faucet, a plunger connected with said lever and adapted to close the bore or pas.- sage in the faucet, the inner endmf said lever being connected wit-h a sprin connected to said faucet, and the outer end thereof being adapted to suspend a pan or other receptacle, substantially as shown and described.
2. In an apparatus of the class described, a faucet, a lever pivotally supported there over, and arranged longitudinally thereofiand a plunger connected with saidlever and adapted to close the bore or passage through the 3d faucet, the inner end of said lever being connected with a spring secured to the faucet, and vertically adjustable with reference to said spring, andthe outer end thereof being adapted to suspend a pan or other receptacle, substantially as shown and described.
8. In a device of the class described, a fancet provided .with a longitudinal bore or pas- A sage, a lever pivotally supported above said faucet and extending parallel therewith, a pints connected with said lever and passing into said faucet and adapted to close said bore or passage means for suspending a pan or other receptacle from the outer end of said lever, and a spring adj ustably connected with the inner-end of said lever, substantially as shown and'described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name, in presence of the subscribing witnesses, this 17th 5 day of September, 1900.
