Be it known that I, JOHN FRASE, of Dowagiac, in the county of Cass, arid State of Michigan, have invented a new and ,improved` Smoothing-Iron; and I do hcrebydeclare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had. to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
This invention relates to an improved smoothing-iron, and. consists in having -the smoothing surface of copper, attached to the body of the iron by rivets cast with the copper plate.
My improved smoothing-iron requires less fuel to heat, and retains the heat longer than the ordinary iron,
can receive a much higher polish, whereby a much smoother surface is obtained than the ordinary iron, and
the starch will not adhere to its surface. It is not liable to rust, nor to iron-monld the linen, to which it impartsa far higher gloss than the ordinary iron. I

A is the ordinary smoothing-iron, cast with holes a a to receive the rivets b b cast with the copper plate B. I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The copper plate B,'in combination with a smoothing-iron, in'manner and for the purposes substantially as described. e
