DEVICE FOR HOLDING AND CUTTING THREAD.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 675,479, dated June 4, 1901- Applieation filed October 9, 1900. Serial No, 32,542. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, STELLA W. HART, a citizen of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Devices for Holding and Cutting Thread for Attachment to Spools, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof, in which Figure 1 is an end view of a spool with my device attached thereto. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of a spool of thread with my device attached thereto. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of my device.
My improvement relates to devices for attachment to spools of thread; and the object thereof is to provide a simple device which will cut the thread when desired and will hold the end from unwinding from the spool.
In the drawings, A is the spool, to the end of which is affixed my thread cutting and holding attachment B, which consists of a piece of resilient metal that will take and hold a cutting edge, one end of which is bent, preferably, at right angles to the body portion and has a notch B formed therein, with a cutting edge. The other end is bent to form coil 13", so that it permits of the easy insertion of a thread thereunder when the device is attached to the spool. Intermediate the ends is a hole 0, through which a tack D passes to hold the device upon the end of the spool of thread.
When my device is attached to the spool of thread and as much thread unwound therefrom as is desired, the thread is drawn under the coiled end, then down upon the cutting edge of the other end, which severs the thread, leaving the end securely held under the coil by the metal pressing the thread upon the wood until another length of thread is desired, which is cut off in the same manner.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- 1. The herein-described thread holding and cutting attachment, comprising a strip of resilient metal, one end of which is bent, substantially at right angles to the body portion, and has a notch with a cutting edge therein, the other end being bent into a coil, and having a hole intermediate the ends.
2. A thread holding and cutting attachment, comprising a strip of resilient metal, having a hole in the center thereof, and the ends thereof bent, one having a cutting-notch thereon, and the other coiled, in combination with a tack and a spool of thread.
In Witness that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto subscribed my name this 3d day of October, 1900.
STELLA IV. HART.
