ATTORNEYS UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SAMUEL PIOHL, OF NEW YORK, N.
SUSPENDERS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 664,675, dated December 1900- Application filed August 15, 1900. Serial No. 26,966. (No model.)
T0 to whmn it WI/G/y concern.-
Be it known that I, SAMUEL PIOHL, a citizen of the United States, residing in the borough of Manhattan, in the city, county, and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Suspenders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a snspender which can be readily attached, detached, and adjusted and which is adapted to prevent soiling or chafing of the garments with which it comes into contact, as setforth in the following specification and claim and illustrated in the annexed drawings, in which- Figure l is a face elevation of a suspender embodying this invention. Fig. 2 is a sectional side elevation of Fig. 1.
The Suspender-band is shown at a and has an end-attaching portion a and a flap or cover portion a. The portion a is shown integral with the body or strap a; but this is not necessary. The attaching or end-engaging portion a has sockets or eyelets b, and the strap (1 has a stud or button portion 0. The series of sockets is adapted for the engagement of the stud, and as the stud is pressed or snapped into or pulled out of a socket the suspender, or rather its end, is secured or freed. To adjust the end for the required shortening or lengthening of the suspender, the button 0 is placed in a higher or lower socket b. The band has a lining f applied back of the sockets, which lining closes or forms a bottom for the sockets and prevents the latter chafing or soiling the shirt or inner garment of the wearer. The flap portion a covers the front of the sockets b and prevents chafing or soiling of the vest or outer garment. The flap has a stud e for engaging one of the sockets b and holding the flap in position. This socket-engaging stud can be snapped into a socket b, or if the end is in the lowermost socket the flap-stud 6 can be snapped into the rear of shaped.
In place of one stud e the strap or flap part might have a series of studs.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A Suspender-strap provided with a stud at its upper end, a suspender-band having a series of sockets adapted to be engaged by said stud for adjusting the position of said strap, a flap secured to said band and adapted to cover the front of said sockets, a lining secured to said band and applied to the back of the said sockets, and a stud carried by said flap adapted to suitably engage said sockets, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
