B. COHEN.
APPAREL BELT END. APPLICATION FILED APR 22.1918.

A TTORIVEV BENJAMIN COHEN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
APPAREL-BELT END.
Specification of Letters Iatcnt.
Patented Dec. 1'7, 1918.
Application filed April 22, 1918. Serial No. 229,911.
To all whom. it may concern Be it known that I, BENJAMIN COHEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York city, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Apparel- Belt Ends, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to apparel belt ends and it is my object to produce a belt end which will be reinforced, which can be cheaply and easily manufactured, which w1ll be sightly, which will not wear or chafe at the edges and which can be quickly and easily threaded into the buckle.
In the drawing Figure 1 is a plan view of my belt end before making up; Fig. 2 an edge view of the belt end; Fig. 3 a plan View of the made up end; and Fig. t my belt end for use with a tongueless buckle.
In making my belt end the body of the belt 1 is extended from an extremely narrowed part 2 forming the point when folded as a reinforcement and shaped to correspond with the contour of the end at that point, the part 3 being as wide as the belt. The reinforce is then narrowed down at 4c and is widened again at 5 to the width of the belt.
As belts are usually pasted or built up the outer face is extended to form the reinforce and the inner face or lining 6 is pasted on and ends at the point 2.
In making up the reinforce is folded back at the point 2 and pasted down. In sewing the edges of the belt together the stitch- 'ing 7 runs along each edge and catches the reinforce at the parts 3 and 5 holding it securely in place. V
For use with a tongueless buckle, I make the ends as shown in Fig. 4, in which 1 is the body of the belt, 2' the point, 4' the reinforcement and 10 the skive at the point. The stitching in this case runs along both edges of the reinforcement. This re1nforcement 4: is made the full width of the belt as tongueless buckles necessitate a full, even grip across the entire belt, if they are to hold properly.
The point 2 is a folded one and has no tendency to open and catch in the buckle during the act of threading.
As belts usually wear first at the edges adjacent to the buckle, the fact that the belt is thickest at the middle portion at this part transfers the strain from the edges to the middle and avoids abrasion.
The customary tongue holes 8 may be unched through the reinforce, lining and facing as shown in Fig. 3.
Instead of making the reinforce integral with the main strap as shown in Figs. 1 and 2 it may be made of two pieces as shown at 9 in Fig. 3 but the point 2 remains in one piece folded on itself.
The point 2 is preferably skived as shown at 10 in Fig; 1 to reduce the thickness of the point when folded over.
I claim 1. An apparel belt end, comprising a main strap, a reinforce extending therefrom, the two being joined by the narrow integral connecting part when folded, the reinforce being substantially the full width of the main strap and integral therewith at the narrowed part and folded back upon and secured thereto.
2. An apparel belt end comprising a main strap, a reinforce extending therefrom, the two being joined by the narrow integral connecting part when folded, the reinforce being substantially the full width of the strap adjacent to the point and integral there- 7 with at said point, then narrowing and widening again to substantially the full width of the Strap at its end.
3. An apparel belt end comprising a main strap, a reinforce extending therefrom, the two being joined by the narrow integral connecting part when folded, the reinforce being substantially the full width of the strap adjacent to the point and integral therewith at said point, then narrowing and widening again 'to substantially the'full width of the strap at its end, the reinforce being folded back on the main strap at the point, and rows of stitching along each edge engaging thewidened part of the reinforce and the main strap.
In testimony whereof I have affixed my signature.
BENJAMIN COHEN.
