NITED TATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOSEPH A. BECK, OF ALLEGHENY, PENNSYLVANIA.
NON-REFILLABLE BOTTLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent'No. 663,052, dated December 18, 1900.
Application filed April 25, 1900. Serial No. 14,322. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH A. BECK, a citi-v zen of the United States of America, residing at 65 Luella street, Allegheny, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Non-Refillable Bottles; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference bein g had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to an improved nonrefillable bottle; and it consists in providing a stopper that will permit the contents of the bottle to be poured out and will prevent any refilling of the same, together with the certain details of construction and combination of parts, as will be fully described hereinafter.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side sectional elevation of a portion of a bottle provided with my improved stopper, whichis constructed and arranged in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the movable valve arranged in the base of the stopper. Fig. 3 is an inverted plan view of the same. Fig. 4 is a perspective sectional view of the disk used for confining the valve in position.
To put my invention into practice, and thereby provide a bottle that cannot be re-. filled, I provide a stopper formed from glass or other suitable material, consisting of the tapering body portion 3, formed to fit neatly in the neck of the bottle 1 and provided with an annular tapering or conical recess 8 at the base and with ducts 6 and 7, arranged in the manner shown at Fig. 1 of the drawings, and the said ducts leading to an opening 5, from which the contents of the bottle is poured. Arranged and operated within this conical recess 8 is a valve 9, also conical in form and of a less diameter, and the said valve 9 formed with a recess 10 in the base and with grooves 14:, extending from the base to the apex of the cone. This valve is held in position by means of a disk 11, attached to the base of the stopper 3, and the said disk formed with an upwardly-extending flange 13 about a central opening, upon which the valve 9 rests. 5
The stopper constructed as described is secured in the neck 2 of the bottle 1 after the said bottle has been filled and the connection between the stopper 3 and neck 2 made by heating the upper periphery of the neck, and by means of a suitable tool turn or crimp the edge 4, as shown at Fig. 1 of the drawings. The disk 11 is secured or attached in position in the same manner by crimping the edge 12, as above described.
In operation when the bottle is inverted or turned bottom upward the valve 9 leaves its seat and the liquor is free to flow through the opening 13, the grooves 14, and ducts 6 7 to the exit 5.
Various slight modifications and changes may be made in the details of construction without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The herein-described non-refillable bottle, consisting of the bottle 1, the stopper 3, and means for securing the same in the neck of the said bottle, the conical valve 9 formed with a recess 10, and external grooves 14:, the disk 11 provided with a flanged aperture 13, as a means for holding the valve in position, and the ducts 6 7, leading to the exitopening 5, all arranged and combined for service, substantially as and for the purpose described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto affixed my signature in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JOSEPH A. BECK.
