a mailing-wrapper for photographs and other like articles adapted to securely hold and protect an article during transportation through the mails and topermit free inspection of the mailed article by the postal authorities.

The invention consists .in a mailing-wrapper comprising an :outer portion or cover formed to be folded about the article. to be mailed and to expose the ends of the article to view when so'folded and stops or holders within the cover arranged to be folded inwardly across the ends of the article to prevent the latter from escaping from the open ends of the cover, said stops being formed to perform their function without obstructing the View of the inclosed article.

Of the accompanying drawings, in which similar reference letters and numerals in,di-. cate like parts or features, Figure 1 represents a perspective View showing my improved mailing-wrapper opened. Fig.2 represents a side view showing the wrapperclosed on-a photograph, portions of the cover being torn away to show the stops and photograph. Fig. 3 represents a perspective view showing the wrapper closed.

The cover above mentioned is a sheet of paper creased to fold along the lines'2 2 3 3, the cover comprising'the central portion a and the flaps a, a the latter having the gummed portion a adapted to adheretoj the flap a when the cover is folded, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3.

b I) represent the stops, which are here shown as ears or tabs formed on the ends of a sheet or strip b, which is gummed or otherwise secured to the central portion a of the cover. The said stops are creased at 4 4 and are thus adapted to be folded inwardly over the sheet I) on lines at right angles with the creases 2 2 3 3.

When a card-photograph c is placed on the sheet I), the stops b b are folded inwardly over the photograph and then the flaps ct a are folded inwardly over the stops and secured together by means of the gummed portion a. The stops are thus held folded across the ends of the photograph c and prevent the latter slipping through the end openings of the cover. The stops are formed so that they do not cover the ends of the photograph, so that the latter can be readily inspected through the said end openings. I

I prefer to make the sheet b and stops b b of comparatively thick and stiff paper, so that the stops will not be liable to work outwardly through the end openings. The cover may be made of thinner and lighter paper, if (le sired.

It is obvious that the stops may be made in separate pieces instead of being formed on a connecting sheet or strip.

. Owing to the fact that the foldable stops' areseparate from and attached to the cover,-

the edges of the cover itself, which are never folded, protect the folded or creased portions of the stops from wearduring transportation. Therefore each stop I) can be relatively nar row, so as to enable the utmost freedomv of.

' inspection of the contents of the envelop, said stops being protected in great measure, as

above stated; against the liability of being torn or worn, as is the case where a portion of one end of an ordinary envelop is cut away.

I claim-- 1. -A mailing-wrapper comprising a'cover I having a central portionand foldable flaps, and stops separate from and attached to the cover and adapted to be folded across the endsof an article inclosed in the coverwith the creases of said stops within the margin of p the edges of the cover, said stops being formed to expose portions'of the inclosed article to' view through the end openings of the cover without unfolding said stops.

A mailing-wrapper comprising a cover having a central portion and foldable flaps, a supplemental sheet or strip Z) secured to the inner surface of said central portion, andstops on the ends of said supplemental sheet adapted to be folded across the ends of an article inclosed in the cover with the creases of said stops within the margin of the edges of the cover, said stops being formed to expose portions of the inclosed article to view through the end openings of the cover without unfolding said stops.
