Description

o STATES PATENT OFFICE,
EORGE A. SEELY, OF EMMETSBURG, IOWA, ASSIGN OR OF ONE-HALF TO JOHN H. GODDEN, OF SAME PLAOE.
TABLE-LEVELER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 640,960, dated January 9, 1900. Application filed April 17, 1899. Serial No. 713 ,382. (No model.)
To aZZ witam it may con/cera.-
Be it known that I, GEORGE A. SEELY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ernmetsburg, in the county of Palo Alto and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Table-Levelers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to table levelers or jacks for elevating and lowering the legs of billiard and like tables required to be kept in a horizontal position.
The purpose of the invention is to secure case of adjustment, to have the leveler in condition for instant use at all times, and to prevent any accidental movement of the parts when adjusted to the required position.
The device consists of Va base, a threaded stem risin g from the base and adapted to enter an openin g in the table-leg, a fiXed followplate slidable upon the threaded stem, a plate having screW-thread connection with the said threaded stem, and an Operating-handle integral with the threaded plate and adapted to be grasped When it is required to turn the threaded plate upon the 'threaded stem to secure an adj ustment of the leg or part to which the device may be applied.
The invention further consists of the novel structural features set forth in detail in 'the following description and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which like parts are designated in all the views and referred to in the description by similar referencenumerals.
Figure l is a Vertical section of the leveler, showing it applied to a table-leg. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the follow-plate. Fig. 3isa perspective view of the screw or adj usting plate. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the base and threaded stem.
The base 1 may be of any formation and as shown is a flat disk having openings 2 near its outer edge to receive screws, nails, or like fastenings when it` is required to secure the leveler permanently to the floor or like supporting structure. The threaded stem 3 :rises centrally from the base and may be formed therewith or fitted thereto. This stem 3 enters the opening 4, formed in the lower end of the table-leg 5.
The follow-plate 6 is of circular form and has a central perforation 7 of a size to receive the stem 3 and admit of the plate sliding freely up and down thereon.
The circular adj usting-plate 8 has its central opening 9 internally threaded to aet in conjunction with the threads of the stem 3, so as to move up or down thereon when turned and effect a Vertical adj ustment of the tableleg. A handle 10 is formed integral with the plate 8 and projects straight out therefrom a sufficient distance to afford ample leverage and enable a firm grip being obtained when it is required to rotate the plate 8 to adj ust the part resting on the follow-plate 6.
Inasmuch as the leveler is designed for general use in connection with game tables, apparatus, and the like, it is to be understood that changes in the form, proportion, and minor details of construction maybe resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is- A table-leveler, comprising a base having a centrally-disposed threaded stem integral therewith and adapted to enter an opening in the table-leg or the like, a follow-plate having a central opening sui'iciently large to receive the threaded stem and freely slidable thereon and bearing against the lower end of the table-leg, and an adjusting-plate having screW-thread connection with the aforesaid stem and supporting the follow-plate and having an integral offstanding Operatinghandle, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE A. SEELY. [L. s.]
