NITED STATES ATENT FFICEG POQKET-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 635,448, dated October 24, 1899.
Application filed December 17,1897. Serial No. 662,857. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, MADISON W. REEVES, of Sayre, in the county of Bradford, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a certain new and useful Improved Pocket-Holder; and I do hereby declare the following to beafull, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of the specification.
My invention relates to a pocket-holder for pencils and the like, and has for its object to provide a holder of light spring metal or suitable material which shall be adapted to be applied to the inside of the pocket in such a manner as to hold the same closedand prevent its contents from dropping out and yet is elastic enough not to hinder articles from being put in or taken out of the pocket.
The invention consists in the novel construction and combination of the several parts, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth and claimed.
Referring to the drawings, Figure l represents a plan View of the invention complete. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same. Fig. 3 represents a plan and side elevation of a non-adjustable form of the invention. Fig. 4 represents detail views of the several parts of the holder.
I attain the above object by the construction shown in the accompanying drawings, in which A B indicate a spring-arm consisting of two overlapping members A and B, adapted to slide through a slot F in a cross-bar C, and by simply drawing the members out lengthens the spring-arms for a longer pocket. The member B is provided with a pointed end at H, which is adapted to engage the several perforations in the member A for different adjustments and thereby prevents the members from collapsing. The endsD of the members A and B are concaved to form points for entering the cloth in each end of the pocketwelt from the inside of the garment.
All thatis necessaryin attaching the holder to the garment is simply to press the ends D together and allow the same to spring into position. This keeps the pocket closed, and the holder being curved,as shown in the drawings, allows the pocket to keep its original shape.
If desired, the memberAcan be made without perforations E and used alone, as shown in Fig. 3.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- I 1. In a pocket-holder, the combination of a cross-bar, and a spring-arm consisting of two members overlapping each other and slid ingly connected to the cross-bar, one of said members provided with perforations, and the other having its end pointed to engage said perforations.
2. Apocket-holdercomprisingaspring-arm consisting of two overlapping sliding members, the overlapping end of one member hav-' ing a pointed end for engagement with a recess in the other member, and a cross-bar having a loop through which the overlapping ends of the members pass.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
MADISON W. REEVES.
