NIT-ED STATES PATENT I OFFICE.
COLONEL FREEMONT DEAN, OF CARMEL, NEW YORK.
BARREL-COVER-TIE HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part Of Letters Patent No. 625,152, dated May 16, 1899.
Application filed May 24, 1898. $erial No. 681,546. (No model.)
To (I/ZZ whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, COLONEL FREEMONT DEAN, of Carmel, in the county of Putnam and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Barrel-Cover-Tie Holder, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to improvements in devices for securing the ends of a cord employed for holding a textile cover on a barrel; and the object is to provide a simple and comparatively inexpensive device adapted to be permanently attached to a barrel and by the use of which the trouble and inconvenience of tying or knotting the cord will be avoided.
I will describe a ba1'rel-cover-tie holder embodying my invention and then point out the novel features in the appended claim.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The figure of the drawing is a perspective View of a tie-holder embodying my invention.
The tie-holder consists of a single length of Wire turned in the form of two concentric rings 5 6,with the ends of the wire wound around the rings at the top and bottom and then turned outward at right angles to the rings to form prongs 7 and 8 to be driven into a barrel just below the'upper hoops. At the sides of the prongs 7 and 8 the rings are spread apart, so that-a cord may be inserted between them, as indicated in dotted lines, and there fore the rings provide clamping-jaws laterally of the prongs.
The device is to be permanently attached to a barrel; and it is obvious that it may be used a great number of times for shipment and reshipment.
In use after placing the cover of textile ma terial over the barrel so that a portion will ex tend down over the upper hoops the cord is to be carried around this downwardly-turned length of wire bent to form two concentric rings and having the ends turned around said rings at top and bottom and then turned outward to form prongs to be driven into a barrel or the like, substantially as specified.
COLONEL FREEMONT DEAN.
