UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WVALTER JAMES CARROLL AND JOHN ERNEST SEARY, OF LONDON, ENGLAND.
FINGER-RING PROTECTOR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 613,243, dated November 1, 1898.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that we, WALTER J AMES OAR- ROLL, residing at 17 Beer lane, Great Tower street, and JOHN ERNEsT SEARY, residing at 118 Ashmore road, St. Peters Park, in the city of London, England, subjects of the Queen of Great Britain and Ireland, have invented an Improved Finger-Ring Protector, (for which we have obtained a patent in Great Britain, No. 20,155, hearing date October 28, 1896,) of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improved finger-ring protector, and has for its object to prevent the rubbing together or friction between rings when worn upon the same finger and the consequent wearing away of their edges to which they are liable without the use of such protectors.
In carrying our invention into practice we provide a thin ring, of celluloid, ivory, vulcanite, soft metal, or other suitable material, constituting a vertical flange or partition between the edges of two contiguous rings, the said vertical flange being formed with two horizontal flanges, one on each side thereof. These horizontal flanges are fitted closely within the inner circumference of the rings to be worn, the vertical flange lying between and separating the two, as aforesaid. The vertical flange forming the protector is of such a height that while preventing contact between the rings it will not be noticeable when worn upon the finger, for which pur- Application filed July 6, 1896. Serial No. 598,213. (No model.)
pose also it is suitably colored or may be made transparent, if desired.
In the accompanying sheet of drawings, Figure 1 is an edge view, drawn to about double the actual size of our improved ring protector; and Fig. 2 is a side view of the same.
(1 represents the protecting or vertical flange, and b b the horizontal flanges formed on each side thereof. The finger-rings are fitted on or secured to the horizontal flanges b b, one to each flange, so that their contiguous edges bear or lie close up against the vertical flange a. The said flange a thus acts as a protector or partition between the finger-rings, pre= venting friction between the same and the consequent wearing away of their edges.
Having now described our invention, What we claim, and desire to secure by Letters Pat= ent, is
A finger-ring protector comprising a ring having a central vertical flange a serving as a protector between two finger-rings and two horizontal flanges b, b, one on each side of the flange a substantially as described and for the purpose specified.
In witness whereof we have hereunto set our handsin presence of two witnesses.
