Be it known thatI, DARIUS F. GALLAGHER, of the city of New York, (borough of Brooklyn,) in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Clothes-Line Brush, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

The object of the invention is to provide a new and improved brush, more especially designed for use on clothes-lines, for properly and automatically cleaning the same upon setting the line in motion when hanging up clothes, so that the latter are not liable to be soiled.

The invention consists of novel features fully described hereinafter and then pointed out in the claims.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming apart of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding partsin both the figures.

Figure 1 is a perspective View of the improvement as applied, and Fig. 2 is an enlarged perspective view of the improvement.

The brush, especially designed for use on a clothes-line, is provided with a flexible back A, of leather or other similar material, wound into spiral form,as is plainly indicated in Figs. 1 and 2. On the inside of the back A are se cured bristles B, extending radially relatively to the axis of the spiral in which the back A is wound, the latter having one, two, or more convolutions, as desired.

One end A of the back A is free of bristles and is bent and apertured to permit of hanging the brush loosely on a hook G, secured to the window-casing or wall of the house adjacent to the inner pulley D for a clothes-line E. By this arrangement the brush can be readily bent or passed upon the lower run of the clothes-line, so that the latter passes in a longitudinal direction through the brush and rubs against the bristles, which therefore clean the entire external surface of the line as the latter is moved out.

It is understood that by the arrangement described the lower run of the clothes-line passes axially through the brush, and as the latter has one or more complete convolutions it is evident that the entire external surface of the line is cleaned.

When the line is not in us'e,the flexible brush can readily be detached from the clothes-line by uncoiling it from the line, the flexible back permitting such movement. The brush may be left hanging on the hook O or it may be removed therefrom and stored until again needed for cleaning the line in the manner described.

The brush can be very cheaply manufactured, and when applied automatically cleans the line upon drawing the lower run out when hanging up clothes.

The back may be made of a rigid material, such as metal or wood, and in this case the line is bent into the spiral brush instead of the spiral brush around the line.

Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. A clothes-line brush having a spirallybent back, and bristles extending from the inside of said back to engage the exterior surface of the clothes-line, and clean the same upon pulling the line through the brush in an axial direction thereto, substantially as shown and described.

2. A clothes-line brush having a spirally bent back, and bristles extending from the inside of said back to engage the exterior surface of the clothes-line, and clean the same upon pulling the line through the brush in an axial direction thereto, said back being provided at one end with means for looselysuspending it from a fixed support adjacent to the clothes-line, substantially as shown and described.
