Description

. Unrrnn ISAAC B. KLEINERT, OF NEXV YORK, N. Y.
DIAPER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 580,406, dated April 13, 1897.. Application filed August 6, 1895. Serial No. 558,413. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ISAAC B. KLEINERT, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York city, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Diaper-Trousers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This improvement is designed to provide diaper-trousers that will substantially fit the wearer and yet be seamless and without gathers.
To this end the invention consists in the peculiar construction of the trousers, as here inafter more fully described, and then definitely claimed at the end hereof.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a pair of diaper-trousers made according to lnyinvention. Fig. 2 is a side view of the same unbuttoned and folded once. Fig. 3 is a central vertical section of the same as in use. Fig. 4 is a perspective view showing the diaper-trousers unbuttoned and partly opened.
Referring 110W'l30 the details of the drawings by figures, 1 represents the body, and 2 the legs, each of the latter having an opening 3 down the front, making folded flaps l 5, one of which is preferably provided with buttons 6 and the other with buttonholes 7, but any approved mode of securing the flaps together may be used. The top of the flaps 4 forms the central or front flap 10 of the body por' tion.
In the manufacture of these trousers I usually make thern of two thicknesses of stockinet united by some waterproof material, preferably uncured rubber, so'as to make the two parts practically one piece, which is pressed into such form as Will make it assume the shape shown in Fig. 2 when doubled, thus forming a concave curve in the central line of the back, near the bottom thereof, so that when the garment is opened and folded to gether it forms trousers having a regularlyformed crotch 9 without any seam, as clearly shown in Fig. 4:. After shaping the article is vulcanized, by which the shape of the parts is maintained. The edges are preferably bound, as shown at 8, but any other style of finishing may be employed, as desired by manufacturers, dealers, orpurchasers.
I do not limit myself to pressing the trousers into form, as the cloth may be woven or knit in the desired shape; and instead of two pieces of fabric united by rubber being used a single thickness of material may be employed having a waterproof coating on one or both sides.
By my invention as above set forth a very superior article of diaper-trousers is provided that will fit the wearer and yet be without gathers or seams to irritate the tender skin of infants, and as it has no seams there can be no leakage through them.
I do not intend to limit myself to the exact form shown, as this may be varied to some extent without departing from the spirit of my invention. For instance, the opening down the legmay be set considerably nearer the outer side or exactly at the outer side, if preferred.
I am aware that it has been proposed to make diapers of somewhat similar shape to mine, but such diapers have been made with seams. in the crotch and are therefore objectionable as irritating to the tender skin of infants. It has also been proposed to make diapers without seams between the legs, but in this case the bottom of the diaper when folded was straight across and had no crotch, and there was consequently a bunch of cloth between the infants legs that was equally as objectionable as the seams.
\Vhat I claim as new is- 1. As an improved article of manufacture, the seamless diaper-trousers herein shown and described, comprising the body and leg portions, the former having a front flap 10 and the inVerted-V-shaped crotch 9 formed integral therewith, and the latter comprising the inside flaps 4, the outside flaps 5 and suitable fastening devices connecting said flaps, substantially as described.
2. As an improved article of manufacture, the seamless diaper-trousers herein shown and described, consisting of an inner and outer cloth facing united by waterproof material between them forming a body and leg portions, the former having a front flap 10 in the presence of two witnesses, this 5th day and the inverted-V-shaped crotch 9 made inof August, 1895. tegral therewith, and the latter comprising the inside flaps 4, the outside flaps 5, and suit- ISAAC KLEINERT' 5 able fastening devices connecting said flaps,
all substantially as described and shown.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature,
WVitnesses:
