IIEZKIAI-I GOULD AND JOHN L. GOULD, OF PORT I'IURON, MICHIGAN.
SPRING BED oa cor.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 579,229, dated March 23, 189'?. Application filed `Tuly 6, 1896. Serial No. 598,215. (No model.)
T all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that We, HEZKIAH GoULD and JOHN L. GOULD, citizens of the United States, residing at Port Huron, in the county of St. Clair and State of Michigan, have invented a certain new, useful, and valuable Improvement in Spring Beds or Oots, of which the following is a full., clear, and exact description. This invention has relation to spring beds or cots; and it consists in the novel construction and arrangement of its parts, as hereini after described.
In the accom )an in@ drawin Os Figure l is b D 7 b a top plan view of the spring-bed. Fig. 2 is a side View of the tension device. Fig. 3 is an end view of the tension device. Figs. 4
and 5 are side views of the knockdown cot. Fig. G is a top plan 'View of a part of the knockdown cot.
The spring bed-bottom consists of the Wirenetting 1, which is secured at one end to the cross-rod 2 and at the opposite end to the adjusting cross-rod 3. The cross-rods 2 and 3 are connected by the metallic rods 4 4, said rods extending longitudinally of the bed. The said rods 4 4 are in turn connected to each other by the cross metallic rods 5 5. The rods 4 4 are provided at intermediate points with the spring-sections 6 6, (see Fig. 1,) and the Wire-netting 1 at its longitudinal edges is attached to the said rods 4 4.
One end of the bed is provided on its side rails with the castings 7 7. Each said casting is provided at its end with the hook 8, Which is adapted to enter the ordinary slot in the bed-post and engage a horizontal support. Thev castings are adapted to support the crossbar 3. Each casting is provided With a the side rail of a cot.
threaded bolt 9, which is journaled in the casting. The said bolts 9 9 pass through threaded perforations in the cross-bar 3. The said bolt 9 may be turned by applyinga Wrench to the head 10, or any other suitable means may be employed for turning the said bolt. By turning the bolt 9 the cross-rod 3 is shifted back or forth, and thus the tension of the springbottom l is regulated.
Relative to Figs. 4, 5, and G, 11 represents 12 represents the legs or posts. The legs or posts 12 are connected to the side rails 11 by means of the curved connections 13 13, one connection being located on each side of the side rail 11. The connection 13 is pivoted at each end to the rail ,or post, and when the cot is knocked down the parts are in the positions as shown in Fig.. 4. When the cot is put up, the parts are in Jdie positions as shown in Figs. 5 and 6.
Having described our invention, what We claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- A spring bed-bottom consisting of a Wirenetting, said netting being secured at each end, metallic rods located at the edge of the said netting, said netting being secured to said rods, cross-rods connecting the first said rods, and spring-sections located at an intermediate point on the rst said rods.
In testimony whereof We aflix our signatures in presence of two Witnesses.
HEZKIAII GOULD. JOHN L. GOULD.
