SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 568,388, dated September 29, 1896.

Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. WELL- STEED, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brampton, in the county of Delta and State of Michigan, have invented'a new and useful Antirefilling Bottle, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to improveinentsin antireilling bottles.
. The object ofthe present invention is to improve the construction of antireiillin g botties and to provide a simple, inexpensive, -and eiiicient one which will nal contents of a bottle to be readily decanted and which will eifectually prevent the introduction of any liquid into it after its original filling.
A further object ofthe invention is to provide such an antiretlling bottle which will be adapted to receive the ordinary cork or stopper and which may be sealed in the usual manner. v
The invention consists in the construction and novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, vand pointedout in the claims hereto appended.

The fastening devices or 5 bolts are preferably two. in number, and 'are disposed diametrieally opposite each other in radial perforations or openings of the upper section, and their inner ends are engaged 6 lower face of the upper section. The cavity is substantially semispherical', and when the device is inserted in the neck of the bottle the bolts or fastening devices-are compressed within their housings and are adapted to spring outward into engagement with an annular curve or recess 10 of 'the inner face of the neck -of the bottle, whereby the deviceV is securely locked in the-neck 2.

which, when thebottleisin an upright position, rests upon the seat and closes the bottle and prevents any liquid from being introduced therein. When the bottle is inyert'ed for decanting the-liquid, the valve leaves the valve-seat and the liquid is permitted to iiow outward. An elastic .band or facing 14 is arranged in an annular groove or recess in the periphery of th'e lower section, and is adapted to fit against the inner' face of the neck of the bottle to make'a liquidtightjoint to pref. '8 ventv the escape of any liquid at that point.
In order to prevent the liquid from being -introduced into the bottle, when the latter is inverted, by a pump or other apparatus, the elastic disk 7 is interposed between the upper and lower sections, and is provided with a central opening of, less diameter than the upper portion or base proper of the inverted conical valve 13. The pressure resulting from an attempt to refill a bottlein this man- 9 ner causes the elastic disk to press against the conical valve, and the latter is thereby forced againstits seat, consequently prevents ing anyliquid from entering the bottle.
The neckofthe bottle is provided on its 1 interior with an inwardly-projecting annular shoulder 1.5, which forms stops to prevent the valve mechanism from being forced into the bottle. The spring-actuated fastening devices will lock the device in the neck of the .bottle and prevent it from being drawn out;
but the shoulder 15 will absolutely prevent the device from being forced into the bottle,
Vvice has been placed' in the neck of the bottle the latter may be corked and sealed like bottles of the ordinary construction.
lt will be seen that the antirelling bottle is exceedingly simple and inexpensive in construction, that it is posit-ive and reliable in operation, and will eectually prevent a bottle from being reiilled.
Changes in the form, proportion and minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or sacriiicingany of the advantages of this invention.

The combination with a bottle, of a diskslinped upper section provided with passages and arranged Within the neck oi' t-he bottle, a diskshaped lower section connected with the upper section, arranged within the neck of the bottle and provided with a valve, and an elasticl disk ot' flexible material interposed between the two sections arranged contiguous to the fiange and adapted to be forced into contact with the same by external pressure, whereby-the valve will be closed when it is attempted to introduce a liquid into the neck of the bottle, substantially as described.
2. `The combination with a bottle, of an upper disk-shaped section arranged within the neck of the bottle and provided with passages,
a lower disk-shaped section arranged within the neck of the bottle, connected withfthe upper section and provided With an opening forming a valve-seat, a. valve-plug arranged on the valve-seat and adapted to move outward away from the same when the bottle is inverted, and an elastic disk of iiexible material interposed between the two sections, provided with an opening adjacent' tothe valve-plug and arranged contiguous to and adapted to engage the same, whereby the valve will be closed by external pressure, substantially as and for the purpose described.
3. In an antirefilling bottle, the combina.- tion with a neck .provided with an interior groove or recess, of an upper section provided with peripheral notches or recesses forming passages, radially-disposed, spring-actuated fastening devices mounted on the upper section and .engaging the curve or recess of the neck, a lower section secured to the upper section and provided at its upper face with an annular opening forming a valve-scat, a conical valve-plug arranged on the seat and adapted to move outward when the bottle is inverted, and an elastic disk interposed bctween the upper and lower sections and provided with a central opening and arranged to engage the tcp of the valve-plug, substan tially as and for the purpose described.
