NON-REFILLABLE BOTTLE.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, WVILLIAM I-I. SARGENT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Beaumont, in the county of Jefferson and State of Texas, have invented a new and useful Non-Refillable Bottle, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to non-refillable bottles and one of its objects is to provide a bottle having a sectional neck constituting the casing for a valve of novel form.

Another object is to provide a bottle neck the sections of which cannot be separated after once being assembled.

A further object is to form a bottle of this character which is made of few parts and can be readily manufactured.

With these and other objects in view the invention consists of certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter more fully described and pointed out in the claim.

In the accompanying drawings the preferred form of the inventi'on has been shown.

In said drawings :Figure 1 is a central vertical section through the neck portion of the bottle. Fig. 2 is a section on A-B Fig. 1.

Referring to the figures by characters of reference, 1 designates a bottle having a cup-like neck section 2 separated from the body of the bottle by a contracted throat portion 3 forming a valve seat. An interior annular groove 4 is formed in the section 2 near its open. end.

The outer neck section 5 has a central passage 6 therethrough and one end of the section is enlarged, as at 7 and has spaced annular ribs 8 adapted to fit snugly in the section 2. Opposed bow springs 9 are adapted to be seated between the ribs 8 so that, when the enlargement 7 is inserted in the section 2, these springs will spread outward into groove 4 and lock the sections 2 and 5 together. A sealing ring 10 of cork or other material is adapted to be placed on the enlargement 7 and below the ribs 8 so as to seal the connection between the two neck sections.

The valve used with the bottle is housed within the section 2 and between the seat 3 and enlargement 7. This valve consists of a disk 11 of glass or the like having concavities 12 in its upper face and upstanding Specification of Letters Patent.

lugs 13 upon its peripheral portion. A recess 14 is formed in the center of the bottom of the disk and is adapted to receive a stud 15 of cork or the like extending from the center of a disk 16 of cork or other material. A central rounded centering projection 17 is formed on the bottom of disk 16, and is adapted to project. into the throat of the neck section 2.

After the bottle has been filled the valve with its two disks connected together, is placed on seat 3. Section 5 is then inserted in section 2 and the springs 9 spread outwardly into groove 4 and thus lock the sections together. The bottle can then be closed by a stopper 18 inserted into the outer end of passage 6. To empty the contents, the stopper is removed and the bottle inverted. The valve moves by gravity away from its seat and the lugs 13 keep it spaced from the enlargement 7 so as to permit the liquid to flow from the bottle.

Should an attempt be made to refill the bottle the valve will close upon its seat. Any wire inserted into the neck for the purpose of holding the valve off of its seat will be turned back upon itself by the concavity 12 into which it is inserted.

Various changes can of course be made in the construction and arrangements of the parts without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention as defined in the appended claim.

\Vhat is claimed is:

A bottle having a sectional neck, a valve loosely housed between said sections and consisting of a disk of hard material having recesses in its upper face, upstanding lugs upon the peripheral portion of the disk, there being a recess in the bottom of the disk at the center thereof, a disk of relatively soft material covering the bottom of the recessed disk, a stud integral therewith and seated in the bottom recess in said recessed disk, and a. central rounded centering projection upon the bottom of the said relatively soft disk.
