SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 551,428, dated December 1'7, 1895.
Application fil d December 26, 1894. $erial No. 533,011. (No model.)
I 0 (LZZ whom it 12mg concern.-
Be it known that 1, JAMES IVILSON, master butcher, of 12 Rose Street, in the city of Glasgow, Scotland, have invented Improvements in and the Manufacture of an Apparatus for Making Reproductions of W'riting or Drawing Matter, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in and the manufacture of an apparatus for making reproductions of writing or drawing matter.
I will now describe the invention, reference being made to the accompanying drawin gs, corresponding parts of which are marked with the same letters of reference.
Figure 1 is plan of the apparatus. Fig. 2 is a similar view with a portion of the frame removed. Fig. 3 is also a plan of the apparatus ready for use, and Fig. 4 is a longitudinal section taken on the lines a b of the same.
The invention consists in its simplest form of two separate pieces of wood of any desired size, one piece constituting the base or sole piece A, being preferably provided with two projecting edges A and A placed at either side of the said piece A. The other piece B, which is hinged or otherwise pivotally connected to the piece A, is composed of two thin pieces of wood D D. (Seen more particularly in I.) These two pieces I) D constitute a frame, and they are held together by means of four springy pieces of metal E. Between these two pieces D D the prepared paper g, on which the writing or drawing is to be performed, is held firmly in position by means of the groove cl cut in the under side of the said upper piece D, and a feather d formed on the lower piece D, and also by the pins or studs 0.
Fixed centrally in the base or sole piece A .hole is surrounded with a fillet, beading or light frame II, and to this fillet, beading, or frame H the four springy pieces of metal E are attached.
The writing or drawing is executed by a steel or agate pencil or other hard substance pointed, and the impressions are taken off in a manner similar to the present method.
I claim 1. The combination of a base A, the outer frame B, the inner frame H having spring pieces of metal E bearing against the outer frame, and the central block F having a wire cloth covering C secured thereto, substantially as described.
2. The combination of the base A, having the two projecting flanges A, A placed at either side thereof, the outer frame B consisting of the lower piece, I) secured to the base, having feather (Z and pins 0, and the upper piece D, having groove d, and pinholes, the inner frame I-I having spring pieces of metal E bearing against the upper piece of the outer frame, and the central block F having a wire cloth covering secured thereto; substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two witnesses.
JAMES WILSON.
