1 Claim. 1

This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in lug'gage handles.

A principal object of the invention is the provision of a luggage handle of the character hereinafter described which may be constructed at an economical cost and one which will be substantially durable in use.

Another and equally important object of the invention is to provide a luggage handle comprisingr relatively few parts and which requires relatively simple Operations in assembly.

Other objects will appear hereinafter.

The invention consists in the novel combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter described and claimed.

The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawings showing the preferred form of construction, and in which:

Fig. 1 is a plan view of a blank from which my improved luggage handle is formed;

Fig. 2 is va side elevational view of the completed luggage handle;

Fig. 3 is an end elevational and Fig. 4 is a sectional detail view taken substantially on line 4-4 of Fig. 2.

The several objects of my invention are accomplished by the preferred form of construction shown in the accompanying drawings and which construction comprises a handle IB. This handle IO is formed from a blank of material H providing two oppositely arranged handle sections |2 each substantially channel-shaped in cross section. These handle sections I 2 are integrally joined together by web portions I3. The blank is folded centrally upon itself to dispose the handle sections |2 in juxtaposition with respect to each other, thereby to form the completed handle. Prior to the formation of the handle by the folding of the handle sections ll and 12 in the manner above stated, the luggage connecting links |4 are journaled upon the web view of the same;

of the handle sections |2 are covered with a relativelythin covering of plastic material l'l which may be various colors to match the luggage with which the handle Ill is associated.

From the foregoing description it is clear that I provide a luggage handle which is relatively simple in construction, comprising relatively few parts, thus affording economical assembly without minimizing the durability of the handle.

While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into efiect, this is capable of Variation portions l3 so that when the handle sections 12 are disposed asl shown in Fig. 2, the web portions II provide bearings for these connecting links l4. The abutting edges |5 of the handle sections are secured together by spot Welding or the like. such for example. as shown at IB.

These spots of welding are dressed down so that there will be no protuberances from the surface of the handle IO.

To complete the invention, the outer surfaces and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. I, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction set forth, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claim.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent is:

A luggage handle comprising a blank of material providing oppositely disposed handle sections each substantially channel-shaped in cross section, said handle sections being substantially U-shaped and having adjacent end portions integrally connected together by notched out web portions, said web portions being folded together to dispose the handle sections in juxtaposition with respect to each other with their edges arranged in abutment, and having the notched out portion forming bearings for pivotally receiving before being folded together connecting links for attachment to said luggage, a welding securing the abutting edges together, said weldng being fiush with the adjacent outer surface of the handle sections at their abutting edges, and a. plastic covering over the outer surfaces of said handle sections.
