Description

(No Model.)
' P. J. BRINGHAM.
SKIRT FOR DOUBLE HARNESS.
No. 545,445. Patented Sept. 3, 1895.
UNITED STATES.
PATENT OFFICE.
FRIEND J. BRINGHAM, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR TO THE SEAMLESS LEATHER COMPANY, OF ILLINOIS.
SKIRT FOR DOUBLE HARNESS.
SLPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 545,445, dated September 3, 1895.
Application filed January 9, 1895.
T0 aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that LIFRIEND J. BRINGHAM, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ohicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Skirts for Double Harness, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
My invention is an improvement in what is called the skirt of a double harness. It is illustrated'in the accompanying drawings, in
which- Figure 1 shows the'device in perspective, and Fig. 2 in longitudinal section.
As heretofore made the trace-bearer has been stitched to the skirt; and the object of this invention is to avoid the stitching. This is done by the construction herein shown.
In the drawings hereunto attached, A is the skirt-strap which depends from the harness, only the lower end'being shown. At the extremity of the lower end of this strap A it is slitted on a plane parallel with its surface, but not quite through to the edge, the slit opening to the outer surface on the line b, thus forming a flat loop a. At a suitable distance above, the strap is slitted at a in a similar manner, as shown at the right hand of Serial No. 534,389- (No model.)
Figs. 1 and 2. The trace-bearer B is formed with reduced end 0, having shoulders d, this reduced end being fitted to be drawn snugly into the loop at the lower end through the slit e, against the edge of which the shoulders (I bear. The upper end of the trace-bearer B is inserted into the upper slit, in which it may be held by the pad-screw, the bearer being arranged in a loop form, as shown in the figures. The trace is inserted in the loop in the ordinary manner. The end 0 of the strap forms the billet for the belly-band.
I claim- In combination the skirtstrap A, having the slitted and expanded lower end and the slitted upper end, the trace bearer B having its upper end inserted in the .upper slit and adapted to beheld therein by the pad screws or equivalent means, the said bearer having its lower end reduced and provided with shoulders, and inserted in the slit in the lower end of the skirt, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
F. J. BRINGHAM.
