CHARLES J; BACKH AUS, OF IiA- PORTE,- INDIANA:
SHOW-CAS E.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 542,227, dated July 9,1895. Application niet rebiuny 2.1395. stanno. 537,090. naman.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES J. BAOKHAUS, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at LaPorte, in the county of La Porte and State of Indiana, have invented certain -new and useful Improvements in Show-Cases;
and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the in vention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
The object of this invention is to provide a means employed for supporting cigar-boxes.
A designates the outer frame or inclosingcase comprisingabasea in which are stepped vertical posts a', supporting a top a2 at their upper ends. Between two of the posts is hung a door A', having a glass panel extending nearly its entire length, and between the other posts are secured glass panels, as shown. The inclosing case is adapted to support a revolving case B, which is suitably journaled in the base and top, so as to be maintained in a central position. The base ot is cut away to provide bearings for a horizontal shaft C, which carries a pinion c at its inner end, said pinion meshing with a gear-wheelb, secured to the bottom of the revolving case B. On the outer end of the shaft C is secured a knob C', by means of which the shaft is turned to revolve the inner case through the medium of the pinion c and gear-Wheel b. The shaft C, in addition to the knob C and pinion c, also carries a grooved pulley c', over which adrivingbelt may pass when it is desired to have the.
inner case constantly revolve for the purpose of attracting attention to the goods displayed therein.
The revolving case B is of such construction as to provide four vertical compartments B', said compartments being provided with supports for cigar-boxes, the supports consisting of inclined strips b', which are secured to the side pieces of the compartments and are formed of sheet metal to present an inclined ledge, at the lower end of which is an upwardly-projecting portion or rest b2. The side pieces of the compartments are also provided With projecting pins h3, which are positioned near the rear ends of the same, so that when the boxes are placed upon the ledges the lids thereof can be turned back and rest against the pins so as to expose the contents of s aid boxes. By means of the supports and lid rests a tier of cigar-boxes can be supported within the case so as to not only exhibit the cigars but also the labels which are usually placed on the inner sideof the lids. This arrangement provides a very effective display-cabinet or showcase for cigars.
Between the compartments B and to the side pieces of the same are attached shelves B2 with guard-rails upon which may be placed bunches of cigars or other merchandise. By the means usually employed the humidity of the air within the case maybe regulated, and the inclosing case being comparatively tight will exclude dust from the goods.
The glass panel in the inclosing case opposite the door may be arranged so as to be readily removable by having the upper end extend through a slot in the top.
I am aware that prior to my invention it Was not broadly new to provide a show-case comprising an outer case with glass panels and an inner revolving case journaled within the outer case, and I do not therefore claim such invention broadly; but
WhatI claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
An inclosed rotary display case made up of top and bottom pieces which are connected to each other by vertical partitions, the rear ends of each pair of partitions abutting to provide spaces for horizontal shelves B2 and vertical spaces the Wallsof which are paralreceiving space, substantially as shown and lel, the inner sides of the parallel Walls havfor the purpose set forth. lo ing boX supports D which project therefrom, In testimony whereof I affix my signature and above said box supports bstuds or pins in presence of two Witnesses.
b3 with which the lids of the boxes engage to CHARLES J. BACKHAUS. hold them rearwardly inclined, the spaces lVitnesses: with the box-supports communicating with a CHARLES A. SIMON,
central spaoej which is common to each box JOHN T. KLOCKSIEM.
