HARRY E. DUNHAM, OF SAGINAW, MICHIGAN, ASSIGNOR OE ONE-HALF TO AARON T. BLISS, OF SAME PLACE.
DINNER-PAIL COVER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 519,809, dated May 15, 1894.
Application filed February 6, 1894- $erial No.499,271. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARRY E. DUNHAM, a citizen of the United States, residing at Saginaw, in the county of Saginaw and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and usef ul Improvements in Dinner-Pail Covers; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form apart of this specification.
My invention is a cover for a dinner pail, and consists in the peculiar construction and adaptation and combination shown and described and claimed.
Heretofore ithas been common to place in a dinner pail a lamp or heater for the purpose of warming the contents when desired or for keeping the same from freezing when exposed to cold weather. Many different pails have been constructed showing the lamp or heater arranged therein in as many different positions and forms, taking up more or less of the space within the pail, making it necessary to make the pail larger or receive less contents. With my invention all the space within the pail is saved and at the same time a heater is provided by which the user can warm his tea or coffee and viotuals before eating. This heater I provide in the top of the cover for the pail.
Figure I, is a side view of the cover showingthe top of the heater. Fig. II, is a side perspective of the same. Fig. III, is a section through the pail cover showing the heating chamber. Fig. IV, is a side perspective showing the cup arranged and fitting over the top of the heater.
In the drawings, A,is the pail cover having a raised top B, upon which are arranged cup holders D, D.
G, is a partition placed within the pail cover at such a point that when the cover is upon the pail it rests upon the top of the pail and thereby provides a chamber in the upper part of the cover.
L, are tubes extending through the top of the cover provided with wicks, and in the chamber of the cover may be placed alcohol or oil into which the wicks in the tubes L, extend, thereby forming a lamp. These tubes L, are shorter than the cup holders D, D, and upon these cup holders the dinner pail or cup or other vessel may be set for warming when the lamp is lighted.
It is obvious that any other form of lamp could be used without departing from the principle of my invention.
Having, therefore, described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In a dinner pail cover the combination with the cover of the oil reservoir of a lamp in the upper half of the cover and integral therewith, tubes extending upward therefrom, lamp wicks in the said tubes extending into the oil reservoir, and means for supporting a vessel above the lamp thus formed, substantially as described.
2. In a dinner pail cover, the combination with the cover, and cupholders upon the top of the cover, of a lamp formed within the cover having the burner within the cup holders, and the cup adapted to be held in place upon, the cover by the cup holders and protect the lamp burner, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I aliix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
HARRY E. DUNHAM.
