IMPROVEMENT IN FOOD-PR'ESERVERS.

Specication forming part of Letters Patent No. 164,964, dated June 29, 1875 applicationled May 28, 1875.

` To all whom it may concern: u l Be it known that I, CHARLOTTE BROWN,

of Hartford, in the county of Hartford and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and ing heat in cooked food 5 and it consists in the novel combination with a water base or vessel of a central food-holding vessel, provided with'gutters, as hereinafter described, and a cover over the same.

Aof the drawings represents a vessel, which, when on duty, is filled with warm water; and o represents a spout, through which water may be poured at will. B represents my foodholder. This is a' hollow pan, constructed with ears or lugs adapted to clasp the rim of the water-vessel at its corners, as shown by Fig. 5 of the drawings, and thereby be held upon said vessel in security. The upper edges of this holder have deep grooves within them, as shown on Fig. l, and marked c. These grooves are united at the corners, and there- -by form one continuous gutter or channel, eX- tending entirely around the rim, and forming not only a channel for holding the cover with great security, but also a wasteway for the condensed steam arising from the food. This condensation is conveyed from the gutter c to the Water -base through the opening y. (Shown on Fig. 5.) Drepresents a cover adapted to iit in the channel c.

It is obvious that by constructing my apparatus of metal I may, when desirable, place it over a lamp Vor fire, and thereby retain the necessary Warmth in the feed. for an indenite time 5 and it is also obvious that the same result may be secured by keeping base lled with Warm water only.

For opening and closing theconductingspout to the water-base, I employ the plug n. (Shown on Figs. l and 4.)

In practice I propose to make my food-preserver of iron, tin, earthenware, or of any other suitable material, and of any desired shape or size.
