BRUSH-BURNER.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 505,099, dated September 19, 1893.

Be it known that I, HENRY SLovER GAY- LORD, of Armona, in the county of Tulare and .State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Brush-Burners;

and I do hereby declare the following to be a v resultant ashes, and which will also embody means for regulating the draft in windy weather and also support logs or branches from falling off the truck.

The invention consists of an open-work burner-frame, composed of hollow pipe and mounted on wheels and having a removable upper extension, and lower removable curtains, substantially as hereinafter fully set forth and particularly pointed out in the claims.

In the accompanying drawingsz-Figure 1 is a view in side elevation of my improved brush burner with the curtains and upper frame attached. Fig. 2 is a transverse vertical sectional view on the line 0000, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is aview in perspective with said parts removed.

Referring to the drawings, A designates the frame or body which is composed throughout of hollow pipes a bent to the desired shape and connected to an upper rail-rod a and brace pipes a This frame or body is mounted at or near its rear end upon wheels b whose axle b is rigidly connected to said frame by brace-arms secured at their ends to the under side of the frame. At its front end said frame is supported by a castor-wheel B held by a swivel O to the frame. A hook D projects from this swivel and to it is designed to be connected the draft-horse, or other means of conveyance. The brush to be burned is placed in this frame and by reason of the numerous open spaces thereof the brush will readily burn after a light or flame is applied thereto and at the same time in the movement of the truck frame from point to point the ashes will be distributed, thus enriching the soil. p

E is an upper frame which consists of a continuous rod 6 bent into shape in keeping with but larger than the top rail-rod of the truck frame, and to the rod 6 are connected a series of inclined bars 6 which at their lower ends are rigidly and removably held to the top rail-rod a. The object of this upper frame is to keep long branches and the like from falling 01f.

To provide against too great draft in windy weather and also to protect vines and the like from the heat, I employ two removable curtains F. Each of these curtains is composed of sheet-metal, and is bent or curved at both ends so as to extend partly around the ends of the truck frame, and thus the two curtains have a slight space or opening at the ends of the truck. To these curtains are secured hooks f which are designed to engage the top rail-rod a of the truck-frame and thus be held in place. When not desired these curtains can be readily removed from the truck frame, as can also the top frame E.

The advantages of my invention are apparent. In the first place by making the truckframe of hollow pipe I avoid all liability of Warping; second,an uninterrupted draftis obtained 5 third, the ashes Will be distributed in the travel of the frame; fourth, long branches or limbs are prevented from falling off, and, fifth, the vines are protected and too great draft is avoided. A brush-burner thus constructed is extremely simple and inexpensive, and is strong and durable.

I claim as my invention- 1. A brush burner composed of pipes connected together and having a top rail-rod, and two curtains having curved ends and hooks designed to engage said rail-rod and inclose the sides of the burner, substantially as set forth.

2. A brush burner having its frame composed of intersecting pipes and having a top rail rod, the carrying wheels for said frame, and the lower removable curtains engaging said rail rod and designed to extend beneath said frame and inclose the sides thereof, substantially as set forth.

3.
