PlCKLE-LIFTER.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 481,691, dated August 30, 1892.

Be it known that we, JOHN A. CURRIE, Jr., and JEssE W. CURRIE, citizens of the United States, residing at Pipe Creek, in the county of Bandera and State of Texas, have invented a new and useful Pickle-Lifter, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in pickle-lifters; and it consists in the construction and arrangement of the parts thereof, as will be more fully hereinafter described and claimed.

The object of this invention is to provide a device of the character set forth which is adapted for culinary as well as table use in lifting pickles, olives, or other edibles of a similar nature from bottles or jars, the parts of the same being simple and effective in the construction and operation.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the manner of using the device. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same.

Similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in both views.

Referring to the drawings, the numeral 1 designates the supporting-arm, having a loop 2 at the upper end thereof and eyes 8, 4L, and 5 formed in the body of the same. The lower end of the said supporting-arm is formed with a bentfoot or base 6, for a purpose which will be hereinafter referred to. Within the eyes 3, 4L, and 5 of the arm 1 is adjustably mounted a sliding arm 7, having its lower end pointed or sharpened, as at S, and normally moving in proximity to the foot 6 of the arm 1. The upper end of the said arm 7 is formed with a ring 9, and below said ring is a shoulder 10, which is adapted to engage with the eye 3 of the arm 1 to limit the movement of the said arm 7, and in the body of the latter arm is also formed an eye 11, which surrounds and is movable on the arm 1 between the eyes 3 and 4 thereof. The device, as shown, is constructed of wire, which is bent into suitable form, and may be ornamented or plated in any suitable way as will be found desirable.

In operation the foot 6 is inserted in a bottle or jar under the pickle or olive and by means of the thumb engaging the ring 9 of the arm 7 the pointed end of the latter is caused to pierce the pickle or olive and hold the same to be readily removed, as will be seen. The foot 6 is so arranged that the end of the pickle may be engaged and the same thereby drawn lengthwise out of the mouth of the bottle or jar.

This deviceis simple and effective in its construction and operation and can be cheaply manufactured, and thereby put upon the market at a comparatively small cost.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is 1. In a pickle-lifter, the combination of a supporting-arm having eyes in the body thereof and a bent foot at the lower end thereof formed by bending said supporting-arm, and a sliding arm mounted in connection with said supporting-arm and having a lower pointed tion of the said sliding arm, formed by a bend and adapted to engage one of the eyes of said supporting-arm, substantially as described.

2. In a pickle-lifter, the combination of a supporting-arm having a loop at the upper end thereof and a bent foot at the bottom of the same, together with intermediate eyes formed by bending said supporting-arm, and a sliding arm fitted in said eyes of the aforesaid arm and having a lower pointed or sharpened end, a ring at the upper end of the same, an eye in the body thereof embracing the supporting-arm, and a limiting-shoulder intermediate said eye and ring, S'lld sliding arm being bent to form said parts, substantially as described.
