To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ERASTUS WV. ELLS- WORTH, a citizen of the United States, residing at East Windsor Hill, in the county of Hartford and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Blowpipe Lamps, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to the class of blowpipe-lamps employed for tempering small tools, testing minerals, soldering jewelry, and other Work of like nature.
The invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts and the details of construction hereinafter more specifically described and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a bloWpipe-lamp embodying my invention. Fig. :Zris a vertical section of the same; Fig. 3, a detail showing a double blowpipe tube, and Fig. 4 a detail of an expanding ring for holdingthe Wick-tube in position.
A is the fuel-chamber of the lamp, and B an air-chamber adapted to serve as a moisture-trap. This trap is provided with an inlettube b, preferably screw-threaded to receive the end of a flexible or other tube, through which an air-blast may be supplied, and with an exit-tube b', into which takes a tube C. The latterv is so fitted into the exit-tube that it may be adjusted to dierent positions therein. In the ferm shown the tube C is closely fitted in the interior of the exit-tube, so as to retain by frictional contact the position in which it may be placed. The tube C carries one or more curved blowpipe-tubes c, through Which the air-blast maybe delivered horizontally over the Wick-tube.
D is a cylindrical casing, and E aWick-tube taking therethrough. The casingis provided with an internally-projecting part cl, (illustrated as an annular flange,) adapted to support the Wick-tube. The lower part of the wick-tube is preferably provided with a radially-projecting part e, also illustrated as an annular ange, serving to support the casing, and its upper part is also provided with another projecting part e', preferably of iiange form, the two flanges being adapted to take over a cut-open ring F, adapted to expand against the wall of the casing D, and thereby hold the wick-tube in place. The expanding ring should fit loosely enough to permit any overow of oil from the Wick to drain back into the lamp, instead of soiling the outside thereof.
G is a sliding tube taking over the wicktube. By sliding` this tube upward the volume of flame may be decreased and by slidingit downward the volume may be increased. 6c
Vhen the wick-tube is of large diameter, the adjustable tube should be provided with more than one blowpipe in order to drive the entire flame in one direction.
The moisture-trap is a desirable feature when the air-blast is to be supplied by breathpressure, but may be omitted when the blast is to be obtained from other sources.
I claim as my inventionl. The combination, in a bloWpipe-lamp, 7o

2. The combination, in a blowpipe-lamp, of a fuel-chamber, a bloWpipe-tube carried by the lamp, a cylindrical casing opening into the fuel-chamber, a Wick-tube taking there- 8o through, and an expanding ring adapted to hold the wick-tube in position, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
8. The combination, in a bloWpipe-lamp,
of afuel-chamber, one or more blowpipe-tubes carried by the lamp, a cylindrical casing opening into the fuel-chamber, a Wick-tube taking therethrough, and a tube adapted to slide upon the wick-tube, substantially as and for the purpose specified. il. The combination, in a bloWpipe-lamp, of the fuel-chamber A, the adjustable tube C, carried by the lamp and provided with an airinlet, one or more blowpipe-tubes c, carried by the adjustable tube, the casing I), opening 95 into the fuel-chamber, the'Wick-tube E, taking into the casing, and the expanding ringF within the casing, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
5. The combination, in a bloWpipe-lamp, roo

6. The combination, in a blowppelarnp, of the f uel-ohalnber A, the ainohamber B, having air-inlet b, the adjustable tube C, taking into the air-chamber, the casing D, opening into the fuel-chamber, the Wick-tube E, taking into said casing, the expanding ring F within the casing, and the adjustable tube G, adapted to slide relatively to the wick-tube, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
7. The combination, in a, bloWpipe-lamp, of the fuel-chamber A, the tube C, having an air-inlet and adjustable on said lamp, one or in the casing and between the projections, 3o
