SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 473,022, dated April 19, 1892.

Application filed July 14, 1891.

To all whom, it may concern:

Be it known that I, CHRISTIAN O. SGHWANER, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Winterset, Madison county, Iowa,

have invented a new and useful Winker- Brace Support and Buckle for Bridles, of'

which the following is a specification.

My object is to provide a simple, convenient, strong, and durable device for supporting the winker-brace of a bridle and connect,- ing it to the brow-band. 1

My invention consists in the construction of a device adapted to be either permanently or adj ustably and detachably connected with the brow -band of a bridle and which has means at its lower end for supporting a winker-brace, as hereinafter described, pointed out in my claims, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a plan or top View of the complete device; Fig. 2, a transverse sectional view through the longitudinal central portion of Fig. 1; and Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the same. Fig. 4 is a front view of the top portion of a bridle of common form, showing my device attached to the brow-band-and supporting a winker-brace, as required in practical use.

A represents the frame of the device, preferably made of cast metal, complete in one piece. Its two side portions are provided with openings or slots adapted to admit a strap to be extended thereth rough, and its central portion A has one or more perforations B, adapted to admit rivets, as required, to permanently connect it to a brow-band or other strap, and it is also provided with anintegral outwardlyprojecting tongue or pin B adapted to enter perforations formed in the longitudinal central portion of the brow-band, as required, to adjustably and detachably connect it therewith. The lower central portion of the frame A is in the present instance provided with three concavo-conveX-shaped projections designated by theletters O and C The outer ones 0 are bowed in one direction, while the central one C is curved in an opposite direction,

thereby providing an eye or opening through which the winker-brace may be extended, as required, to support the winkers or blinds of a bridle. Any number of like concavo-convex projections having the alternate ones bent in opposite directions or the complete winkerbrace-supporting part formed in the shape of a hollow cylinder, which is adapted to admit the said winker-brace, may be substituted without departing from the spirit or detracting from the merit of my invention.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. A winker brace support and buckle for bridles, consisting of an oblong frame having a transverse bar at its center and a tongue projecting at right angles from the center of said bar, and integral projections extending outward from one of the sides of the frame and adapted to be bent and clamped fast to a winker-brace, in combination with the browband and a winker-brace.

2. A winker-brace support and buckle consisting of a metal frame having means for permanently or detachably and adj ustably connecting it with a strap, as set forth, and a winker-brace-supporting device at the lower portion thereof, consisting of a series of concavo-conveX-shaped projections, each alternate one being curved in an opposite direction, as required, to provide an eye or opening through which the winker-brace may be extended and by which it may be securely supported, substantially as set forth.

3. A winker-brace support and buckle for bridles, consisting of a frame A, having the bar A extending across its central portion, and provided with the tongue B and the perforations B and extensions 0 and C on the lower edge thereof, substantially as set forth, for the purposes stated.
