L. FRANK. WAISTBAND FOR TROUSERS.

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LEOPOLD FRANK, OF NEIV YORK, N. Y.
WAISTBAND FOR TROUSERS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 471,967, dated March 29, 1892.
Application filed December 24, 1891. Serial No- 416,048. (No model.)
' To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, LEOPOLD FRANK, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city, county, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Waistbands or Garment-Supporters, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a band or strip containinga number of loops Whose arrangement and means for securing the same to the band or strip constitute the invention involved in my present application, the object being to secure a more practicable, economical, and enduring arrangement than has heretofore been used for the purposes which I intend to apply my improvement.
It has been suggested heretofore to use waistbands having elastic loops attached thereto, the said loops sliding in eyelets and extending outwardly from the inside of the band; but a serious disadvantage, and what has proved a fatal objection to this arrangement, is that the loop is liable to slip back behind the band and become lost or inaccessible to the wearer, which disadvantage of itself renders the article valueless, another serious objection being the elasticity of the loops, rendering them peculiarly liable to become stretched and distorted, thereby disarranging the set of the garment to which they are attached.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, Figure I represents an elevation of the waistband applied to a garment. Fig. II is a cross-section thereof. 7 In the drawings, A represents the principal strip of my improved waistband, and B B the loops, preferably made of ordinary tape and attached to the band in the following manner': The ends of these loops are folded together, and an eyelet 0 extends through them and through the waistband, as shown. The
ends of the loops are farther extended down* wardly and beyond the eyelet, the hem D of the band A being thrown back and over the end of the loops inclosing and enveloping them and stitched thereto and to the band itself, as shown at F. The upper part of the strip is also turned back and stitched at E. The band may then be attached to the garment by means of additional seams, the said stitching or seams also serving to retain and forming additional means of attachment of the loop to the waistband and to the garment to which they are finally to be attached.
It will be seen by referring to the drawings that the loop is entirely on the exterior of the band, and hence there is no danger of it slipping in behind the band and becoming lost.
The device may be applied and preferably is applied to boys trousers-waistbands, as I have shown it. boys ranging from four to thirteen years of age, and I prefer to place my article upon the market in strips running from twenty-four twelve to twenty-nine inches in length, making ten different sizes for the variousdimensions, or the waistbands can be sold in rolls or on spools of any desired length.
Having thus described my invention, the following is what I claim as new therein and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
A waistband consisting of a strip of cloth A, provided with loops B B, folded together, as shown, the eyelets G O for securing the loops to the band, and the hem D of the band A thrown back and over the ends of the loops B B, which extend below the eyelets, inclosing and enveloping them, the said hem being stitched, as shown at F, as and for the purposes set forth.
LEOPOLD FRANK.
