FRED F. FIELD, OF BROOKTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
MACHINE-FOR HAMMERlNG DOWN THE EDGES OF INSOLES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 463,447, dated November 17, 1891.
Application filedDecember 11, 1890. SeriaLNo. 374,298. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRED F. FIELD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brockton, in the county of Plymouth and State of Massachusetts, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in- Machines for Hammering Down the Feathers of Boots and Shoes, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a machine for hammering down the feathers of shoes; and the invention consists in the matters hereinafter described, and referred to in the appended claims.
The accompanying drawings represent my improved machine, Figure 1 being a side elevation of the machine; Fig. 2, a cross-section through the shaft; Fig. 3, a detail of the cocentric-rod, and Figs. 4 and 5 further detail views of the ham mer-holder.
A is a cast-iron frame having mounted therein a shaft B, which is provided with a driving-pulley C and an eccentric D. The eccentric-rod F is journaled on this eccentric and is pivoted at G to the hammer-holder H, which in turn is pivoted to the base at I. The hammer-holder is provided with two clamping-screws J, which serve as means for clamping' the hammer K. The hammer K I may be made of. spring-steel of about the shape sh0wn-that is to say, with its end curved upward and backward, so as to forma curved surface for beating against the shoe.
L is an adjustable anvil for supporting the shoe under the hammer, and it may be adjusted at different heights by means of the screw-thread M, and clamped at any given height by a set-screw N. A roller-guide O on a pivotP serves to form a guide against which the edge of the sole of the shoe is pressed.
X represents the sole of the shoe and Y the against the roller-guide and causing each part of the feather to come successively under the action of the hammer.
WVhat I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. The combination, with a frame, of the main shaft, an eccentric on said shaft, a hammer, pivotal connections between the harm mer and the frame and the hammer and cocentric, and a shoe-support located under the striking end of the hammer, the upper surface thereof being rounded and provided on its edge with a roller-guide, substantially as described.
2. The combination, with the frame, of the .main shaft, an eccentric on said shaft, an eccentric-rod on said eccentric, a ham mer-holder to which the eccentric-rod is pivoted, said hammer-holder being also pivoted to the frame, a hammer removably secured in said holder, and a shoe-support located under the striking end of the hammer and having a roller-guide, substantially as described.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 6th day of December, 1890.
