.IJEE ANDERSON, OF PARIS, TEXAS, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-THIRD TO THOMAS BROAD AND JOHN MARTIN, BOTH OF SAME PLACE.
IHAMEHFASTEN ER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 463,222, dated November 17, 1891.
Application filed March 2, 1891. Serial No. 383,379. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LEE ANDERSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Paris, in the countyof Lamar and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hame-Fasteners; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
M invention has relation to hame-fasteners; and it consists in the construction and novel arrangement of parts, as hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out-in the appended claim.
The object of my invention is to provide a hame-fastener of simple and inexpensive construction, to do away with springs and buckles as a means for holding the parts together, and to employ a strap for confining the rackbar within the housing, as will appear.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a side View of a hame-fastener embodying my invention; Fig. 2, a vertical longitudinal section of same; Fig. 3, a plan View.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, in which like numerals indicate corresponding parts in all the figures, 1 designates my improved hame-fastener, which consists of the housing 2 and a rack-bar 3. The housing 2 is hollow and of a general rectangular form in cross-section, and at one end is provided with a ring or hook 4, by means of which it may be attached to the hame. The upper wall 5 of said housing is cut away to form a longitudinal opening 6, for a purpose presently explained. The rack-bar 3 is rectangular in cross-section and of a size to fit within the housing and leave a space 7 between' the upper face of the bar and the wall 5, between which is adapted to pass and fit tightly a leather strap 8. Said strap is provided at one end with an eye, by means of which it is secured to the hook 4. In the bottom of the housing is formed a stop 9, against which the .tooth of the rack-bar is designed to hold.
To look and unlock my improved fastener, taken in connection with the above description and accompanying drawings, may be briefly described as follows: The hames, having my improved fastener attached thereto, are placed in position upon the collar, and by placing the free end of the rack-bar withinthe housing and forcing the bar and housing together said bar will be forced into the housing and the tooth 10 made to engage the stop located in the bottom of the housing, and by taking the free end of the strap and passing it through the opening between the bar and the wall 5 of the housing cause the bar to bind itself.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a hame-fastener, the combination, with the housing 2, cut away as described and rectangular in cross-section, the stop 9, formed therein, the hook or eye 4, and the strap 8, carried by said hook, of the bar 3, provided with a tooth 10, adapted to engage the stop 9, and held in engagement therewith by the strap 8 passing between the bar and the housing, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
LEE ANDERSON. Witnesses:
