Description

(No Model.)
A. W. SMITH; HAMB.
No. 561,731. Patented June 9,? 1896.
UNITED STATES PATENT OEEICE.
ANGUS IV. SMITH, OF UNION CHURCH, MISSISSIPPI.
HAM E.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 561,731, dated J' une 9, 1896.
Application filed November 5 1895.
To a/ZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, Anous W. SMITH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Union Church, in the county of Jelerson and State of Mississippi, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Haines 5 and Ido declare'the following to be a full, clear, and eX- act description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to haines.
The object of the invention is to simplify the construction and to provide hames with simple means for attaching thereto the tracehooks.
IVith this object in view the invention consists of Certain features of construction and combination of parts, which will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.
\ In the accompanying drawings, Figure lis a perspective view of a metallic hame and a hook attached thereto. Ilig.v 2 is a transverse sectional view to more clearly show the manner in which the bool; is attached to the hame. Fig. 3 is a detail view of the hame before the hook has been attached, showing the position of the lugs before they have been bent down upon the hook. Fig. 11 is a detail perspective view of a modified form of my haine.
In the drawings, 1 denotes one of the haines, constructed of iron and provided near its lower end with parallel laterally-projecting ears 2, which project toward each other but do notcome in Contact.
3 denotesrthe trace-hook, which is provided Serial No. 567,978. (No model.)
able manner and will firmly secure the hook to the haine. To avoid any liability of the hook pulling out from between the ears of the hame, I have made the tongue of dovetail'form, thus preventing the separation of the parts in a vertical direction.
In Fig. 4L I have shown the hame constructed of wood and metal. The metal plate Gis provided with ears 7, similar to those shown in the other figures of the drawings, and the hook is engaged therewith in the same manner.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination with a metallic bar bent into the form of a haine and provided at its edges with ears projecting laterally, then forwardly, then laterally, and overlapping the outer side of said bar, of ahook provided with a slit to form a tongue which lies between said ears, said tongue being of dovetail construction, whereby itis prevented from being drawn from between said ears, substantially
