' P. L. ADAMS.
STOVE.
No. 460,192. Patented Sept. 29, 1891.
F lC-2 W I v r UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRED. L. ADAMS, OF PROPHETSTOW'N, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO HENRY A. OLEAVELAND, OF SAME PLACE.
STOVE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 460,192, dated September 29, 1891..
Application filed March 19, 1891. Serial No. 385,645. (No model.)
To to whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRED. L. ADAMS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Prophetstown,in the county of WVhiteside and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Stoves, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in stoves; and the objects in view are to provide a stove adapted for the consumption of either coal or wood, and this in a simple, economical manner, all as will hereinafter appear in the following description and particularly pointed out in the claims.
Referring to the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective of a stove constructed in accordance with my invention, the urn swung to one side, the griddle removed, and the magazine in position. Fig. 2 is a perspective of the magazinein detail. Fig. 3 isa vertical longitudinal section of the stove, the magazine in position. Fig. 4 is a detail in perspective of the magazinesupporting ring.
Like numerals of reference indicate like parts in all the figures of the drawings.
1 designates an ordinary cylinder-stove, in the top of which is formed the griddle opening or hole 2 and at one side of the opening the socket 3, Which receives the lug formed upon the edge of an ordinary griddle. The stove is also provided with the pipe-receiving collar at, and at one side of the griddleopening there is pivoted, as at 5, an urn 6,
designed to swing upon or to one side of the stove, as is usual. A short distance below and concentric withtthe griddle-opening 3 is located a similarly-sized ring 7, provided at intervals along its upper edge with offsets 8, having perforations 9, through which are passed supporting-bolts 10, terminating in nuts 11 within the offsets and having their outer ends passed through the body of the stove and nutted, as at 11.
12 designates the magazine-cylinder, which is provided at its .upper end with a flange 13, designed to fit within the griddle-opening 2 of the cylinder, and provided at its edge with a lug 14, designed to fit the socket 3. hen in this position, the upper edge of the magazine is flush with the upper edge of the stove, and said magazine depends through the griddle-opening, and also through the ring below said opening within the cylinder 1, whereby any lateral displacement of the magazine-cylinder by reason of the wedging 5 ing of wood and other such light fuel; but
by the introdiiction of the magazine-cylinder hard coal may be used in the same manner as in any ordinary magazine or self-heating stove.
In order to facilitate the introduction and removal of the magazine from the stove, I provide handles 15 upon the inside of the magazine.
By means of the nuts 11 the ring may be adjusted in position. In this manner the magazine may be supported in its proper position within the stove.
I-laving described my invention, what I claim is 1. The combination, with the stove-cylinder having the griddle-opening, of the removable magazine fitting the opening, and aring supported below said opening within the cylinder and receiving the magazine, substantially as specified.
2. The combination, with the stove-cylinder having the griddle opening provided at one side with the griddle-lugreceiving socket, of the magazine terminating at its 0 upper end in a flange fitting the opening and provided at one side with a lug covering the socket, substantially as specified.
3. The combination, with the stove-cyli11- der having the griddle opening provided 5 at one side with the griddle-lug-receiving socket, of the magazine terminating at its upper end in a flange fitting the opening and provided at one side with a lug covering the socket, and the ring supported within the 100 cylinder at an intermediate point and spanning the magazine, substantiallyas specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
FRED. L. ADAMS.
