NITED STATES AWENT Fries.
DRINK-MIXER.
SPECIFlOATIDN forming part of Letters Patent No. 447,654, dated March 3, 1891.
Application iiled May 27, 1889. Serial No. 312,261. (No model.)
vand to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to means for mixing drinks, and aims to facilitate the process of shaking, whereby one or more glasses can be manipulated at the same time.
The improvement consists of the novel features, which will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed, and which are shown in the annexed drawings, in which- Figure l is a perspective view of a shaker embodying my invention; Fig. 2, a vertical section through the tumbler-support, parts being broken away, showing the operation of the cover-holder and cam-lever by dotted lines. Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the tumbler-supports.
The oscillating beam A is supported on the bracket B in any manner that will admit of the free movements of the beam A, preferably by having lateral gudgeons a, which are inserted in notches Z2 in the bracket. The springs C, between the beam A and the bracket B, have their tension adjusted by the threaded bolts D and the nuts (Z on the said bolts D. These springs assist the operation of shaking and hold the beam in a predetermined position against variable weight at its ends. The tumbler-supports are secured to the ends of the beam A and are composed of a series of arms E, which have depressions e to receive the foot of the tumblers F. The covers f are held on the tumblers by the holder G, which is mounted on the vertical stem H and pressed down by the spring I, that is placed on said stem and held between the holder G and the adjustable stop t', the latter being a nut on the threadedend of the stem H. The cam-lever J is pivoted to the stemv Il and is designed to act in opposition to the spring I and lift the holder G when placing' the tu mblers or removing them fromv the support. The holder is composed of a central hub and a series of curved lingers, the number of the lingers corresponding with the number and position of the depressions e. rlhe covers f are centrally depressed to receive the ends ofthe lingers of the holder, whereby the cover may adapt itself to the mouth of the glass and be held thereon with an equal pressure at all points of contact. The beam A is curved upward from its middle and is held against motion when remov ing the tumblers and adjusting the covers f by the pin k, which passes through the bracket B and the beam A. The linger-rests Z, projecting from the beam, afford a purchase for the linger when operating the beam.
The operation of the device is as follows: The beam is held stationary by pin Zt and the holder Gv is lifted, and the tumblers, being lilled and covered, are placed on the support and the holder lowered to retain the covers in place and hold the tumblers on the support. The pin Zt is removed, and the beam oscillated until the tumblers have. been sufficiently shaken. The beam is again fastened and the tumblers removed.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s-
1. In a beverage-shaking apparatus, a stationary frame, a rocking receptacle carrying bar pivoted on the frame, receptacles mounted on the said bar to one sidel of the pivotal point thereof, and a spring between the frame and the bar and acting on the bar, substantially as set forth.
2. The combination, with the tumbler-support and the stem having a slot, of the holder placed on the said stem, the operating camlever pivoted in the slot, and the spring for pressing the holder down, substantially as and for the purpose described.
3. The combination, with the bracket and the curved beam pivoted to the said bracket and having finger-rests to one side of the pivotal point thereof, and having tumbler-holding devices, of the springs between the said beam and the bracket, substantially asdescribed, for the purpose specilied.
4. The herein shown and described shaker, comprising the bracket having notches, the
