SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 427,078, dated May 6, 1890.

To all whom it may concern: I

Be it known that I, \VILLIAM H. HEINZ, a citizen of the United States, residing at Dayton, in the county of Montgomery and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements'in Fountain-Brushes; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

My invention relates to improvements in fountain-brushes, the same consisting of a reservoir, a scrubbing-brush, and a rubber cleaner united in one implement and having a suitable handle for operating the same. The object of uniting these several parts is to do scrubbing and complete the cleaning by a single implement. I attain the object by the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure l is a transverse section of the im- Fig. 2 is an end view of the same, showing the plate of the handle partly in section. A is a tin vessel having the length of the brush-block to which it is attached, and in transverse; sect-ion is generally circular and having an acute angle at the lower left corner, and from this angle a ribbed plate 7 extends horizontally through a slot in the brushblock B. Ears S are formed at both ends and screws entering through the same secure the fountain to the brush. The brush-block B is constructed in the usual manner, having orifices to receive the hair or other material, with the exception of a central slot extending nearly the length of the said block. This slot is to accommodate the extension of the fountain used to carry the water onto the brush material at a point nearly central between the same. At the bottom of the block is an extension to which the plate D is attached, and it is only necessary to make a secure fastening for said plate, which is secured by wood-screws to the block.

E is the handle, having a socket in its outer end to receive a wooden handle. On its inner end are lateral cylindrical extensions that occupy the housing of the plate, and beneath is a lug to arrest the downward movement of the handle, and the upper is arrested by the side of said housing. Beneath the pivot of the handle is placed a piece of rubber 10, to give rigidity to the movement of the handle. At Fig. 3 m is the orifices of the block, at ori- 'fices of the fountain, and 7 the ribbed distributer. The ribs serve to prevent the wa ter flowing sidewise along the same.

The operation is thus: The reservoir or fountain is filled from the bottom through the screw-cap, the brush is then moved to and fro over the surface of a window or floor, the water flowing out centrally within the brush material, and when the scrubbing is completed the wiper is used to complete the cleansing operation by making the surface coinparatively dry.

Having fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. In a fountain scrubbing-brush, the com bination of the vessel A, having the ribbed projection 7, and over the same a series of orifices n and ears 8, and the centrally-slotted block B, supplied with brush material, substantially as set forth.

2. In combination with a fountain scrubbing=brush, the wiper comprising the metal head and arresting-lug beneath, and therubber 10, in combination with the longitudinallyslotted brush-block B, substantially as described.
