W. H. BUGKLEY, Jr. GARBAGE REGEPTAOLE.
No. 426,766. Patented Apr. 29, 1890.'
' V &J\ ATTOlM/E UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WVILLIAM H. BUOKLEY, JR, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
GARBAGE-RECEPTACLE. i
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 426,766, dated April '29, 1890..
Application filed December 16, 1889- Serial No. 333,911. (No model.) A
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM H. BUOKLEY, J r., a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania,'have invented a new and useful Improvement in Garbage-Receptacles, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings.
My invention consists of a garbage-receptacle which is adapted to be secured to a fence or other support, and so arranged that its inlet is at the inner side of the fence and its outlet is at the outer side thereof, whereby the contents of the box may be readily discharged, and when the box is in normal position the contents thereof are concealed on both sides of the fence, as will be hereinafter set forth.
Figure 1 represents a vertical section of a garbage-box embodying my invention. Fig.
2 represents a perspective View thereof.
Fig. 3 represents a front view of a portion thereof.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures.
Referring to the drawings, A designates a sector-shaped casing, which is secured to a fence or other support, and being open at top and side, so as to form a communication from the inner side of the fence to the outer side thereof. Supported on the top wall of the casing A is a box B, which is readily removable, and when in position adapted to receive the garbage, saidbox having a lid 0 for evident purposes.
D designates a sector-shaped casing, which is located within the casing A and hinged to the adjacent portion of the outer frame of the casing A or to the fence, it being noticed that the top of said casing D is open, so as to form a communication with the box B, said casing being also adapted to be swung outwardly or upwardly, and thus overturned, as shown by the dotted lines, Fig. 1.
The operation is as follows: When the parts are in position shown in Fig. 2, the garbage may be placed in the box B and the drip thereof enter the casing D, it being seen firmly supporting said casing.
that the escape of the garbage and drip is prevented owing to the front or closed side E of said casing D, the garbage being concealed both inside and outside'of the fence. When the casing D is opened and overturned, the garbage contained in the same, as well as in the box B, may be discharged into a bucket or other suitable receptacle, the curved bottom of the casing A serving to direct any of the garbage dropping from the box B to the outer opening of the casing A, said bottom, as is evident, acting as a chute, it beingv also seen that the box and casings A D may be readily scraped and cleaned, as they are accessible from the outside of the fence.
The box B is preferably made of galvanized metal, and may be removed when desired for the purpose of cleansing and repairs without disturbing either of the easings A D.
The casing A is attached at its outer end to a frame F, which is screwed or otherwise fastened to the wall of the opening in the fence, thus strengthening the casing at its place of connection with the fence, and also It will also be seen that the casing D constitutes the door of the discharge end of the device, which, when swung open, uncovers the frontof the casing A.
The hinges of the lid 0 are secured to the lid, so that the box may be removed without removing said lid.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. A garbage-receptacle consisting of a casing open at top and side, an inner hinged casing with open top, and a box on said outer casing, said parts combined substantially as described.
2. A stationary casing having a movable casing therein and a box above the same, substantially as described.
3. A hinged casing D within the stationary easingA and a boxB above said casing, combined substantially as described.
4. The combination of the casing A, with open top and side, the frame F, the inner easing D, with open top and hinged to said movable box B, supported over said casings frame F, and the box B on said casing A, and A D, forming an improvement in garbage having an open bottom leading into easing boxes, substantially as stated.
D, said parts being; combined substantially as \VILLIAM H. BUCKLEY, JR. 5 described. \Vitnesses:
5. The stationary easing A and the hinged JOHN A. XVIEDERSHEIM,
easing D therein, in combination with the re- A. P. JENNINGS.
