EMIL E. EHRMANN, OF TERRE I-IAUTE, INDIANA.
TROUSERS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 426,717, dated April 29, 1890.
Application filed January 17, 1890. Serial No. 337,170. (No model.)
has for its object to provide an improved.
back strap and a means of securing the same to the garment, whereby the back strap will not only efficiently perform its usual functions, but will also so serve to tie the waistband to the body of the garment that the two will not be parted when a severe strain is brought to bear upon the rear Suspender-buttons.
The invention consists in the novel construction and combination of the several parts, as will be hereinafter fully set forth, and pointed out in the claim.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters and figures of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure 1 is a front elevation of a pair of overalls having my invention applied thereto, and Fig. 2 is a rear elevation of the same.
The back straps 10 are made angular and essentially L-shaped, comprising practically a vertical member a and a horizontal member a. The straps are applied to the outer face of the garment and the vertical members are attached securely in any approved manner to the waistband 11 and the body portion 12 of the garment below the waistband, the horizontal members being left free. The vertical member of the straps are made of a length to project upward and over the upper face of the waistband and down in contact with its inner face, as illustrated. The straps are shown as stitched to the garment, this being the preferred form of fastening; but
they may be riveted or otherwise secured, if desired. It will be noticed that the rear suspender-buttons (see Fig. 2) are afforded a very firm hearing by the two thicknesses of the vertical members a and that the buttonsecuring devices also help to secure said members in place. The waistband is also strengthened by said straps 10 at the rear buttons.
As a further improvement in the construction of garments I provide a re-enforcing strip 13 for the pockets 14, consisting of a strip of stout materialsuch as canvas or leather, preferably the latter-secured to the outer face of the pockets at the mouth and to the body of the garment at the corners of the mouth. The re-enforcing strip is preferably made to extend over within and contact with the inner surface of the pocket; but if in practice it is found desirable the upper edge of the strip may terminate at the mouth of the pocket.
I desire it to be understood that the lower member a of the buckle-carrying strapmay be secured to the body of the trousers, if found advantageous in practice, the buckle only remaining free.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- In a garment of the character described, the combination, with thewaistband, of essentially L-shaped back straps, the vertical members whereof are secured to the waistband and the body below the waistband, and the upper ends of said members carried over to a connection with the inner surface of the waistband, the horizontal members being free and the rear Suspender-buttons having fasteners passing through all of the thicknesses of waistband and straps, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
